    Introduction

Abraham was justified by faith, and not by the works of the law; for his faith was imputed to him for righteousness, Romans 4:1-5. David also bears testimony to the same doctrine, Romans 4:6-8. Abraham, the father of the Jewish race, was justified by faith, even before he was circumcised; therefore salvation must be of the Gentiles as well as the Jews, Romans 4:9-12. And the promise that all the nations of the earth should be blessed in him, was made to him while he was in an uncircumcised state; and, therefore, if salvation were of the Jews alone, the law, that was given after the promise, would make the promise of no effect, Romans 4:13-17. Description of Abraham's faith, and its effects, Romans 4:18-22. This account is left on record for our salvation, that we might believe on Christ, who was delivered for our offenses, and raised again for our justification,Romans 4:23-25.

    Verse 5
But to him that worketh not - Which was the case with Abraham, for he was called when he was ungodly, i.e. an idolater; and, on his believing, was freely justified: and, as all men have sinned, none can be justified by works; and, therefore, justification, if it take place at all, must take place in behalf of the ungodly, forasmuch as all mankind are such. Now, as Abraham's state and mode in which he was justified, are the plan and rule according to which God purposes to save men; and as his state was ungodly, and the mode of his justification was by faith in the goodness and mercy of God; and this is precisely the state of Jews and Gentiles at present; there can be no other mode of justification than by faith in that Christ who is Abraham's seed, and in whom, according to the promise, all the nations of the earth are to be blessed.

It is necessary to observe here, in order to prevent confusion and misapprehension, that although the verb δικαιοω has a variety of senses in the New Testament, yet here it is to be taken as implying the pardon of sin; receiving a person into the favor of God. See these different acceptations cited in the note on Romans 1:17; (note), and particularly under No. 7. It is also necessary to observe, that our translators render the verb λογιζομαι differently in different parts of this chapter. It is rendered counted, Romans 4:3, Romans 4:5; reckoned, Romans 4:4, Romans 4:9, Romans 4:10; imputed, Romans 4:6, Romans 4:8,Romans 4:11, Romans 4:22-24. Reckoned is probably the best sense in all these places.

So, reckoned, imputed, credited, counted are all viable words.

Is that what the 'nameless doctrine' teaches? :Biggrin

We are imputed with the righteousness of Christ, the Scriptures teach this plainly. Now if that is 'bogus' to anyone, he or she needs to quit teaching others, stop arguing theology, and frankly repent.

I sent Dr. Bill Mounce a PM on twitter and asked him which word, counted, credited, imputed, reckoned or another word is best used in Romans 4:5.

And the open warfare with truth continues. Nothing wrong with credited, reckoned, counted as indicated by the OP. The reformed myth continues to be asserted but nary a verse to support it. Did they consider Romans 4:22? Nope.

How are we made righteous according to scripture, By being transferred into Christ spiritually, thus we become the righteousness of God in Him. In Him we are made righteous. Does the nameless doctrine have an alternate view? Nope

I am not at warfare with the scriptures. Don't cry and bellyache when you're the guilty offender.

    Matthew Henry..

    Commentary on Romans 4:13-22
    (Read Romans 4:13-22)

The promise was made to Abraham long before the law. It points at Christ, and it refers to the promise, Genesis 12:3. In Thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. The law worketh wrath, by showing that every transgressor is exposed to the Divine displeasure. As God intended to give men a title to the promised blessings, so he appointed it to be by faith, that it might be wholly of grace, to make it sure to all who were of the like precious faith with Abraham, whether Jews or Gentiles, in all ages. The justification and salvation of sinners, the taking to himself the Gentiles who had not been a people, were a gracious calling of things which are not, as though they were; and this giving a being to things that were not, proves the almighty power of God. The nature and power of Abraham's faith are shown. He believed God's testimony, and looked for the performance of his promise, firmly hoping when the case seemed hopeless. It is weakness of faith, that makes a man lie poring on the difficulties in the way of a promise. Abraham took it not for a point that would admit of argument or debate. Unbelief is at the bottom of all our staggerings at God's promises. The strength of faith appeared in its victory over fears. God honours faith; and great faith honours God. It was imputed to him for righteousness. Faith is a grace that of all others gives glory to God. Faith clearly is the instrument by which we receive the righteousness of God, the redemption which is by Christ; and that which is the instrument whereby we take or receive it, cannot be the thing itself, nor can it be the gift thereby taken and received. Abraham's faith did not justify him by its own merit or value, but as giving him a part in Christ.

    Albert Barnes...

And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
And therefore - His faith was so implicit, and so unwavering, that it was a demonstration that he was the firm friend of God. He was tried, and he had such confidence in God that he showed that he was supremely attached to him, and would obey and serve him. This was reckoned as a full proof of friendship; and he was recognised and treated as righteous; that is, as the friend of God. (The true sense of faith being imputed for righteousness is given in a note at the beginning of the chapter.) See the note at Romans 4:3,5.

Imputed righteousness is a pillar of the faith, Jude 1:4.

    John Gill...

    Romans 4:22
And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness
    .
Not because his faith was strong, and he had a full assurance of it, but because it was right, resting on the promise of God, and relying upon his power and faithfulness to perform it; for though the righteousness of faith is not imputed to any sort of believers, not to mere nominal ones, yet to all such as have true faith, though it may be but weak; for faith, as to nature, kind, and object, though not as to degree, is the same in all true believers, and the same righteousness is imputed to one as to another.

LOL, did anyone see any scripture that supports the myth? No, I did not think so. So what we have here is a failure to communicate. I provided scripture to support we are made righteous, not imputed with righteousness, and scripture that says we become the righteousness of God in Him. No mention of imputed mythology.

All we have are nameless doctrine advocates shouting their mythology must be true because they claim it is true. First they confuse Abraham's faith being credited as righteousness to him, with Abraham being declared righteous. So they have no comprehension of Romans 4:5. Then they claim everyone saved is imputed with Christ's righteousness, without any verse whatsoever.

And these are those who claim to be teachers of truth. No sale.

Your vast misunderstandings of Scripture must mean something huge.

I'll tell you one thing, the heresies spewed by alleged Baptists on this forum (and I HIGHLY doubt some are truly Baptist - I mean, they cannot prove it that they are, and assuredly some will claim they are so they can get a foot in the door) have helped me sharpen my sword and dig further into Scripture. :)

Brother, there will be people in church, who've heard truth for years, who will come up with the most asinine claims that will go against all truth they've ever been taught. They'll say something to make you see they just do not get it, after they've been 'amening' you for years. :) :Laugh

They have already been denying the doctrines of original sin, federal headship of both Adam's, eternal security, now it seems some are denying the imputation of the Christ's righteousness. All it takes is for one heresy to get accepted and then watch out! As Jesus said, 'a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump'.

Smoke and smear again and again. Change the subject again and again. Did anyone see any scripture that supports the myth? No, I did not think so. So what we have here is a failure to communicate.
