In Exodus we have come to the giving of the Law.

In Matthew Jesus forsakes His earthly family for the family of faith.

Paul, what a rabble rouser! What a trouble-maker! He just thinks he's so right all the time! We need peace in the church, not all this turmoil! And look at how poor Sosthenes suffered all because of Paul!

No doubt Aaron! I think Judas would have been a much better choice for church planting. I mean- he was very good handling money. He usually had a calm demanor, and he definitely didn't have such a tendancy to cause riots!

And the Isrealites keep grumbling. "We should have stayed in Egypt" is almost a mantra for them!
What do you glean from chapter 16 & 17 of Genesis tonight? For me, it is that the Lord will provide for His own. Crossreference the Gospel of John chapter 6 and see that Christ refers to Himself as the "Bread of Heaven" as well. Just as God provided for the Isrealite's physiacl need, He also provides for our spiritual needs. Also in Chapter 17, the rock from which the Lord supplies water, I would recommend using a concordance and seeing how many times the word "rock" appears in the scriptures. Biblical Word Search
Also in chapter 17, keep your eye on Joshua as we go. This is far from his last victory.
I have always really liked chapter 18. There are two lessons there for me. 1) That those in authority need to learn to delegate; and 2) even though Moses was the highest authority present, he still listened to advice from his father-in-law.

I like the "red text" in Acts tonight. "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city."
This text speaks to me personally often right through 2 milleniums.

God really stressed how we should get along with others in Exodus 20.

Commandments 1-4 are toward God.
Commandments 5-10 are toward man.

I have a question and please don't stone me. It is just a thought I had while reading.

"And he (Apollos) began to speak boldly in the synagogue; whom, when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, THEY took him unto them and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly." Acts 18:26

Could this possibly mean that Priscilla had a hand in instructing Apollos along with Aquila?

That's OK Sue. I'm glad you decided to join in. I wasn't here last year to go through it, but I have really enjoyed reading the comments from last year. I'll try to comment occationally when I have time. I know there are several others reading along, so keep it up. I've enjoyed reading your posts in the other forums.

From the Broadman Bible Commentary, 1970, volume 10, pg. 109:

What did Aquila and Priscilla impart to Apollos to make him more effecient as a witness to the Christian faith? Perhaps they instructed him in the Pauline method of interpretation so that his argument for Jesus as the Messiah might be more effective. There is no evidence that Appolos was associated with the twelve disciples of John the Baptist whom Paul later confronted in Ephesus (19:2 ff.).

Of the Jews at Ephesus; using great freedom of speech, and showing much intrepidity and greatness of soul, and presence of mind; not fearing the faces of men, nor the revilings and contradictions of the Jews:

whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard;
they attending at the synagogue, and having observed what he delivered, that there was some deficiency in it, though they took no notice of it publicly; partly on their own account, it not being proper, especially for Priscilla, to speak in public, nor was it allowed in the Jewish synagogues for a woman to speak there; and partly on his account, that they might not put him to the blush, and discourage him; and chiefly on account of the Gospel, that they might not lay any stumblingblocks in the way of that, and of young converts, and give an occasion to the adversary to make advantages: wherefore

they took him unto them;
they took him aside when he came out of the synagogue, and privately conversed with him; they had him "to their own house"; as the Syriac version renders it;

and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly;
these two doubtless had received a considerable measure of evangelical light and knowledge from the Apostle Paul, during the time of their conversation with him; and as they freely received from him, they freely imparted it to Apollos, with a good design to spread the truth of the Gospel, and to promote it and the interest of Christ in the world: and as on the one hand it was a good office, and a kind part in them, to communicate knowledge to him, so it was an instance of a good spirit, and of condescension in him, to be taught and instructed by them; especially since one of them was a woman, and both mechanics, and made but a mean figure: and from hence it may be observed, that women of grace, knowledge, and experience, though they are not allowed to teach in public, yet they may, and ought to communicate in private, what they know of divine things, for the use of others.

and Matthew Henry:

If Paul or some other apostle or evangelist had been at Ephesus, he would have instructed him; but, for want of better help, Aquila and Priscilla (who were tent-makers) expounded to him the way of God more perfectly. Observe, (1.) Aquila and Priscilla heard him preach in the synagogue. Though in knowledge he was much inferior to them, yet, having excellent gifts for public service, they encouraged his ministry, by a diligent and constant attendance upon it. Thus young ministers, that are hopeful, should be countenanced by grown Christians, for it becomes them to fulfil all righteousness. (2.) Finding him defective in his knowledge of Christianity, they took him to them, to lodge in the same house with them, and expounded to him the way of God, the way of salvation by Jesus Christ, more perfectly. They did not take occasion from what they observed of his deficiency either to despise him themselves, or to disparage him to others; did not call him a young raw preacher, not fit to come into a pulpit, but considered the disadvantages he had laboured under, as knowing only the baptism of John; and, having themselves got great knowledge in the truths of the gospel by their long intimate conversation with Paul, they communicated what they knew to him, and gave him a clear, distinct, and methodical account of those things which before he had but confused notions of.

I wasn't here last year either and I just started this year a few days ago. I try to read the Bible from front to back each year; but I am enjoying this schedule.

I won't post tomorrow since I am already a day ahead. I guess that's better than being a day behind though.

Clint : Thanks for such a thorough answer to my question. I thought I had read it correctly, but it's always nice to have some solid back-up.
