"'The Wartburg Project' is a group of Lutheran pastors and professors who are working together to produce a new translation of the Bible, the Evangelical Heritage Version™."

"Dr. John Brug, Professor-emeritus of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (Systematic Theology and Old Testament), serves as the general editor and Old Testament editor. Rev. Brian Keller, Pastor at St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church, Adrian, MI serves as the New Testament editor."

"more than 100 participants (and counting), including laypeople who serve as proofreaders and popular reviewers. They come from the ELS and all 12 districts of the WELS."

"Lord willing, we plan to publish through Northwestern Publishing House a 'New Testament and Psalms Special Edition' in time for the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation in the fall of 2017."

Will this version become their type of Niv/Esv then?

Psalms and Matthew are available on Amazon.

I looked over the preview of both and didn't find anything to make me madly anticipate purchasing the new version.

It will be interesting to see what they do with Romans.

WELS especially liked NIV2011's take on Romans 3:23-24:

lines 167-173 of the TEC Supplemental Report for the 2011 Synod Convention

"In some passages of great theological significance, a significant improvement can genuinely assist the reader in grasping the truth of God’s Word....we might point to Romans 3:23-24, so crucial to our understanding of justification:

NIV84 Ro 3:23-24 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

New NIV Ro 3:23-24 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

The addition of the little word 'all' is significant, since it clarifies Paul’s intended meaning: God declared all guilty sinners not guilty by his gracious, saving work in Christ Jesus."

Problem is that God still declares sinners lost and not reconciled back to Himself!

The unscriptural addition makes sense if your goal is to provide an agenda driven translation. Note that the redemption is past tense. However, the redemption is in Christ Jesus, so if God puts you into Christ tomorrow, your future redemption will provide your justification in the future.

God did NOT reconcile all sinners back, or else would have become saved then!

So you agree the NIV translation is bogus? Redemption occurs when God transfers a person into Christ. Not before!!!

Would say that the redemption happens when a siiner receives Jesus as their Lord, and is due to the will of God!

In whose opinion. Does redemption occur when the sinner says he or she trusts in Jesus, or when God credits the person's faith as righteousness? The concept of instilled redemptive faith is bogus.
