Thanks for the succinct response, but it doesn't help me grasp how you lump atonement into God's patience with sinful humanity.

Could not God be equally patient with sinners without ever atoning for their sins? Could not the practice of the law by humans not lead to a better life for humanity despite no atonement for the laws that are broken?

I am trying to wrap my mind around your statements about atonement, but you haven't provided much clarity on the subject. I welcome more clarity beyond the phrase "No I don't." Thanks

The atonement work of Jesus at the Cross applies towards the elect only, correct?

I'm trying to clarify...are you saying that God's patience isn't connected to Christ's atoning work?

For those whom God chooses to atone, God continues to patiently sanctify.

For those whom God does not make atonement, God patiently grants reprieve from judgment.

Christ's atonement is limited to the elect and thus does not directly affect those who are unpardoned.

TCassidy seems to be mixing atonement to all peoples. I am still waiting on his answer.

Now explain that post. You make assertions without anything to back it up. I'm looking for the data that backs your assertions. Without it, you are merely making an empty claim.

Matthew 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Romans 8:19 For the creation waits with eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.
20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but because of him who subjected it, in hope
21 that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.
23 Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body.

The death/resurrection of Jesus brought in for even sinners the result of also having a resurrection and living on forever, and general benefits of Grace of God extended to them ...

Well 1 Timothy 4:10 says "God is the savior of all men". The Scripture's use of term "savior" isn't limited to just salvation. In the Greek translation of the Old Testament (the Septuagint), the word "sotor" (savior) was sometimes used in the sense of "deliverer". Wouldn't the fact that God delivers men from immediate damnation, death and judgement as well as sending them "rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying [their] hearts with food and gladness” (Acts 14:17) demonstrate that He is the Savior of all?

Think the key is when it states "especially of those who believe!"

Two passages about God's patience as he waits to call his elect, but neither passage makes the connection to Christ's atonement for the elect being beneficial for the lost.

No, no it wouldn't. It would mean that God's patient waiting for his elect children spares humanity from immediate and sure damnation, but it doesn't mean God saves all humanity.
Your universalism is not supported in the scriptures.

I'm a particularist. I just agree with TCassidy (and the Westminster divines) that there are some universal implications of Christ's atonement. John MacArthur gave similar commentary to 1 Timothy 4:10.

    Heb 10
[10] By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

    Matt.26

    1. [28] For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

The Lamb of Gods death occurred without a mans body, during the laying of the foundation of the earth.

A body was prepared, FOR the Lamb of God, for WHEN He would come into this world AS:
The Word of God, later revealed, called Jesus, called the Son of God, called the Lamb of God, called Savior, called Truth, called Quickening Spirit, called Before all things, called the Way, called the true Light, called Lord, called Priest, called Life, called King, called ..... etc.

Called Christ the Power and Wisdom of God.

For ANY MAN to receive Salvation, Salvation must be available.
A condition had to be met, for Salvation to be available.

A mans and woman's FLESH body was made good, in the Likeness of God, and called Adam.
The body came from the earth.
The LIFE that brought the body into living, came from Gods breath, imparting a living soul into the body.
Once the body was quickened (brought into living), the BLOOD in the body, becomes the LIFE of the body, and maintains the body's life.

Once something GOOD, becomes tainted, it is no longer good. It's corrupt.
A corruption occurred with man and woman called Adam, WHEN they disobeyed God.

The flesh body became corrupt, and also that which is what is IN the body....ie the mind, the heart, the living soul.
Also what comes forth out of the corrupt body is corrupt...the thoughts of the mind, the heart, their word.

Since it is the SEED that reproduces it SAME KIND of thing ~ man and women reproduced their same KIND of "corrupt" thing. And as Adam reproduced, his offspring was in Adam's likeness.

All of mankind is born in sin, except ONE, whom Scripture teaches was John the Baptist.

The whole quest God desires is for mankind to learn about Him, and choose to stand WITH Him.

God provided the WAY for every man; To, have his living body voluntarily given unto spiritual death, (justified, sanctified, covered, and kept with Christ); To, have his living soul restored and saved forever with Life; To receive a new heart; To receive a spirit born again via the seed of God; To receive the Holy Spirit; To receive direct communication, teaching truths, wisdom and understanding between Gods Spirit and man's spirit; and teaching how to restore the man's mind, by it subjecting itself to the thoughts in his heart being fed by God.

Salvation was provided FOR ALL men created and born OF the earth.
Salvation IS a GIFT, with conditions.

To receive the GIFT, one MUST believe and SUBMIT in faithfulness, via the thoughts in his Natural heart ( his natural spirit ) unto the Lord God Almighty.

A man WHO does such, receives the further gifts ( as just mentioned ), and such man is thereafter, Because of his submission, giving his life over to the care and keeping, by the Power of God (ie the Holy Spirit). God seals the man UNTO Himself, forever. And FYI, that man becomes along with all the other Saved and Born again men.....Gods Inheritance. :)

There are several "elect" within scripture.
The Hebrews as a Nation, The Hebrews of the 12 tribes, with 12,000 virgin men from each tribe, The Levite Priests, The Prophets, The Saints, The Jews who remain faithful, The Gentiles who become faithful, All who (during their physical life) become faithful are called.
The "elect" shall occupy Christ Lord Jesus' Kingdom on earth.

Any man WHO, accepts the Gift of Salvation, accepts the Gift from thee God, they must first believe.

Receiving Salvation requires FAITH in God. However FAITH in God does not "mean" Salvation.
Many men have FAITH, while they are learning ABOUT God.
Learning ABOUT God, does not "mean" being Saved.
Calling on the Lord, requesting HIS forgiveness, and vowing your faithfulness unto Him, is the step required to receive ones gift of Salvation that Christ Jesus provided with His death, His blood, His offering. And once given, it is permanent. :)
