[00] Introduction

Michael the archangel.

Who is like unto God?, the highest messenger of the Father? Does it matter or is it insignificant? What does the Bible teach on this?

Who is this glorious personage that appears in the Old Testament in the prophecy of Daniel, and in the New Testament, in the Revelation of Jesus Christ?

What is Michael's part in the plan of Redemption?

What does Michael have to do with the people of God?

What will happen when Michael stands up [Daniel 12:1 KJB] and what does it mean to us, and to the world?

This present study will identify, according to the scripture, the King James Bible, the answers to these questions. Take up God's word, with serious and constant prayer, with confession and repenting of error and sin, earnestly studying, not resisting the Holy Spirit, but believing God, who will reward abundantly, and set one free with and in the Truth.

For those who are not familiar with Bible study, you will not want to skip any sections, or jump ahead, but will need to read from this section onward, in chronological order.

For those who are more familiar with Bible study may skip a section or two as desired, but please take the time to go back through each section skipped until completion of the whole.

For those who already have a position on the subject, I would ask that you suspend that position and/or apriori, and consider the subject afresh and anew, as if you had never studied it before.

There may be questions that some have, that will be answered herein.

There may be questions that some have that are not answered herein, but that would not be because for lack of effort, or research, or an attempt to brush any concern aside, but simply due to the element of frail, feeble and fickle man, namely myself.

I have tried to approach this subject from all points of scripture and also to answer the questions and/or objections that may come after such a study.

If a question or objection is not herein fully represented [though I believe the heart of all objections are answered herein], please let me know, and I will be glad to consider it in the light of all scripture, and may even add it in any future revisions of this study.

[01] Locating the main texts on Michael the Archangel in The King James Bible

In this section, the direct and primary scriptural texts will be listed that reference Michael the Archangel by either the terms, “Michael”, “Michael the Archangel”, and/or “the archangel”. There are only 6 such texts in the King James Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

There are only 3 Old Testament [OT] texts that directly name this Michael:

Daniel 10:13 KJB - But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

Daniel 10:21 KJB - But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.

Daniel 12:1 KJB - And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

There are only 2 New Testament [NT] texts that directly name this Michael:

Jude 1:9 KJB - Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

Revelation 12:7 KJB - And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

There is only 1 other New Testament [NT] text that directly speaks of this personage, as “the archangel” as already found listed in Jude 1:9 KJB, as “Michael the Archangel”:

Angels are created beings, so if Jesus is Michael, he is a created being. Read Hebrews 1, with close attention to vss 5-8. That's heresy numero uno.

Then you are conflating the KJV as the word, when it is a translation of the word of God, which was written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. That's heresy numero dos.

Heretics can't have only one heresy. They're like Lay's potato chips, you can't just have one.

Did you download and read the section on angels? Not all "angels" are created. The word "angel" does not denote nature, but rather office/function.

Did anyone utilize the time and opportunity to download the file, and look it over?

I am truly interested in studied feedback, and am also interested in why present Baptists turn away from their historic (and reformational), and scripturally studied position, that Michael the archangel is Jesus Christ, eternal Son of the Father, and have now gone back and taken up Roman Catholicism's position, which is a denigration of the character of Jesus (for Satan always attacks His character in one form or another).

Even the WTS, the Jehovah's Witness, organization, has repudiated half of the Reformation doctrine [which was studied prayerfully from scripture by those Godly men of the Reformation], and also denigrate Jesus Christ, in making him a created being.

What do you, who have downloaded and considered the evidences therein, think of those prominent Baptists gone before, and their prayerfully studied exegesis of this subject?

I totally agree with that statement, and have seen it in fulfillment on numerous occasions.

Did you view the sections as suggested, in answer to your sincere question?

I asked myself all the hard questions, and asked myself about the same passages, and proofed the prayerfully studied responses through several trials by deep-rooted opponents.

As stated, I am only interested in Truth. I follow where He leads.

If any want to truly win JW, show them this information, as they are ignorant of it.

Why continue any further, allowing the JW, to rob us of a precious truth, fought hard for in the Reformation, when it can be used to show them their grievous error, Arianism, and reclaim what is rightfully ours, and set the precious Gem of this Truth back into its proper setting.

Why allow the JW to beat people over the head, with the correct portion, in that Michael is Jesus, when if the whole Truth of the matter was taken up, in that Michael is Jesus (practically the whole of the Reformation taught it and from before) being the Eternal, Uncreated Creator, and Son of the Father, thus stripping them of their half-Romanized weapon, and turning around upon them, over throwing their error altogether.

They would begin to rightly see the Deity of Jesus, in His always being the one like, the express image of, the Father, the highest messenger from the bosom of the Father's love to us-ward.

To identify Christ as a created being is heresy. But to identify Michael as Christ is not necessarily heresy if one insists that Michael is not created but is in fact the Word. I do not agree that Christ equals Michael, anymore than I accept all the Theophanies (or Christophanies) that many folks seem to find in the Old Testament. But I don't think any of them are heresies.

John Gill, the learned 18th century Particular Baptist pastor and theologian, also identified Michael as Christ.

Jude 1:9: "By whom is meant, not a created angel, but an eternal one, the Lord Jesus Christ; as appears from his name Michael, which signifies, "who is as God": and who is as God, or like unto him, but the Son of God, who is equal with God? and from his character as the archangel, or Prince of angels, for Christ is the head of all principality and power; and from what is elsewhere said of Michael, as that he is the great Prince, and on the side of the people of God, and to have angels under him, and at his command, ( Daniel 10:21 ) ( 12:1 ) ( Revelation 12:7 ) . So Philo the Jew F15 calls the most ancient Word, firstborn of God, the archangel; ..."

On Daniel 10:21: "Christ the Prince of the kings of the earth, he was the Prince, Protector, and Guardian of the people of the Jews; he is the Angel that went before them in the wilderness, and guarded them in it, and guided them into the land of Canaan; he is the Angel of God's presence, that bore, carried, and saved them all the days of old, and was their King and their God, their Defender and Deliverer, still; he took their part, and was on their side; yea, he was on the side of, and took part with, them that were for them, the holy angels; and there was none but him that exerted his power, and strengthened Gabriel to act for them in "these things" relating to their peace and prosperity: or, "against these" F3, as it may be rendered; against the princes of Persia and Greece, the evil spirits that worked in these kingdoms, in the children of disobedience there; and had it not been for him, and the exertion of his mighty power, it would have been soon all over with the people of the Jews; as it would be now with the church of Christ, of which they were typical, but the Lord is on their side; Michael the Archangel, and his angels under him, fight for it, protect and defend it; and since he is for his people, who shall be against them? or to what purpose will an opposition be? the gates of hell cannot prevail against the church of God, the saints of the most High."

Christ Jesus is most definitely not a created Being (His body of flesh of mankind, was made), but is the "only begotten" and Eternal Son of the Father, even God manifest in the flesh, JEHOVAH Emmanuel.

I had already included the commentary of John Gill, in section [11] Messengers of the LORD & Reformation, along with various prominent Theologians, Commentators, Concordances, Dictionaries, Lexicons and others ...

I had also included a short list in section [XX] Appendix 2 - The Short Historical List of those who taught Jesus is Michael the archangel and/or angel of the LORD.

Some take this subject (as others) of no, or little, consequence, but the Holy Spirit would lead us into all Truth, even leading into the same mind. Only truth can sanctify (John 17:17 KJB), and error cannot, ever.

Since you have seen John Gill's exposition (not that he is the final authority, thank the LORD), and there is much evidence being given demonstrating most carefully that Jesus is Michael, I am curious, as to which point specifically, in all that which has been given, and in which yourself has now cited, would not satisfy this conclusion.

There is only two conclusions, either Jesus is Michael, or he is not. Ought we not be able to come to the same praferfully studied conclusion, thus fulfilling Christ's own prayer?

If Jesus is not Michael (let evidence be demonstrated), Roman Catholicism is correct in its teaching on this,

If Jesus (Deity) is Michael (as I believe is most fully, prayerfully, and diligently demonstrated), then let us proclaim this truth with all fidelity to our great and loving Lord, in the face of those who would mock us for it.

Are we ashamed of truth?

Great light is shining upon us, and all light can only help us to understand God, in His glorious eternal character more fully.

Well, no. There is a reasonable conjecture, but no definitive proof. Good people can disagree. I understand you are following Ellen White here, but perfectly reasonable people can disagree or believe it's reasonable but not proven or even disagree. It does not rise to a an article of faith, except perhaps among the Adventists.

Again, whether one disagrees with another does not eliminate the only two options, Jesus is Michael or he is not. Only one is truth, prevarication or disagreement does not alter the fact that only one is true, the other not.

I did the study independent of sister White, as I began as Roman Catholic. That she acknowledges the truth, and stands upon it, scripturally, and stands with the greatest minds of the reformation, proves her heart, unashamed of Jesus in all his character.

I suppose there are many this day, which it is easier to say nothing, to choose neither side (which is choosing) as it was in Elijah's day (1 Kings 18:21 KJB), (Matthew 12:30 KJB). If only people, especially in leadership, would take a decided stand, how many more would take courage to do the same.

I know that in the great Gospel net that there are many kinds of fish, but presently, many might be classed jellyfish, unless they show some backbone, sooner, rather than later.

Once Michael/Jesus stands again, probation will be closed, even for us, beginning with the church itself:

Daniel 12:1 KJB - And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

even as it was in the days of the Jewish nation, as then, so shall it be again [Ecclesiastes 1:9, 3:15 KJB]:

Acts 7:55 KJB - But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

Acts 7:56 KJB - And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

As then, so again:

Additionally, in Joshua 5:14,15 KJB, we see the word “Captain”, which is translated from the same Hebrew word [H8269] “שׂר”, “śar”, being translated as “Prince” in Isaiah 9:6; Daniel 8:11,25, 10:13,21, 12:1 KJB:

Therefore it may be seen, that Gabriel refers to Michael/Jesus as “... one of the chief princes ...” so identifying Him as the ruler/captain/leader over the forces of Light, and referred to Satan as the other “prince” over the forces of Darkness who had “withstood” himself:

Jesus/Michael and Satan/Dragon, are the “Princes” over their forces in the great controversy:

Is there any further considerations about how Jesus/Michael is “... one of the chief princes ...”?

Yes. Since the word that is translated as “prince” means one who rules [Exodus 2:14, etc. KJB] we can see how Jesus/Michael is yet “Prince of princes” [Daniel 8:25 KJB], even “Prince of the Kings of the Earth” [Revelation 1:5 KJB]. Who are these other “princes”?

[1] There are many High priests, and chief shepherds of the Temple, whom are called the “princes” [H8269] of the sanctuary, and Jesus is the High priest, the Chief Shepherd over them all, though He be one of many “brethren” [Hebrews 2:11 KJB]:
