What if We were Prejudiced against All Major Sins Equally?

What if we as Christians treated all major sins in the bible such as fornication, adultery, habitual lying, and carousing like we do homosexuality? I know I would have moral qualms baking a cake for a couple who fornicated before marriage if I was a baker. The verses that seem pertinent for what sins to be prejudiced against seem to be (Galatians 5:19-21) (Colossians 3:5-6) (Romans 1:26-31) (1 Timothy 1:9-10) (Revelation 21:8) (2 Corinthians 12:20-21) (Ephesians 5:3-7) and the Sermon on the Mount.

I guess this all gets back to evangelism though. I have thought about how to reach out to homosexuals and other notorious sinners, but I have found that nearly everyone around me except for church-goers are immersed in many, many notorious sins. Sins that will land them in hell if they do not repent and embrace Jesus as Lord an Savior. The best biblical advice I can seem to find for this situation is in (1 Corinthians 5:9-11).

Of course, it seems witness to notorious sinners makes us the more dedicated to avoid any hypocrisy and fight against sins we commit.

I have to ask another question though that I guess is for all American Christians, how do we witness to so many notorious sinners in need of a radical change of life?

When there is a national movement to force acceptance of those other sins down our throats then they will get the same attention. No one is suing people for not serving adulterers, no one is driving a campaign to get into our schools and teach our kindergarten children those other sins are good and acceptable.

Not sure why that needs to be explained.

Many of these problems wouldn't exist if Christians (or pseudo-Christians) were not so fanatic about misrepresenting the faith as adherence to behavioral precepts.

When you think of sin and righteousness only on the basis of works - (i.e. commit these acts and you are unrighteous verses don't commit these acts and you are righteous) - and you appoint yourself as a so-called defender of God's character, and start demanding that those who are dead in sins must abide by biblical precepts, you're going to get pushback in the form of people trying to shove their debauchery down your throat

My own viewpoint is that non Believers are constantly trying to shove their sins down my throat.

I know that in high school they made me watch what amounted to pornography, telling me that nudity was just fine in a scientific setting. They told me that I needed to use a condom with spermicide when I had sex and that abstinence was the only way to be sure of "safe sex," really fornication. I am told by therapists, which I must use for a disability, that divorce is just fine in many cases. Hollywood movies constantly push fornication as well as "fooling around" with others than your spouse. I live in a city with a big downtown club scene where there is constant carousing and drunkenness. I have potential workplaces I was interested in saying that I couldn't pray or pass out tracts because it is plain "wrong" to do so. I have tons of people berate me since it was rude not to tell a "little white lie" in many instances. Of course, I could go on. That any of these sins makes their way among Believers, who may be rejected after death as false, is beyond all belief to me.

All of that said, I do understand that homosexuals are being especially loathsome in targeting children specifically, just like the "sex ed" crowd did. I had forgotten this though in my feeling of being sieged by an evil culture. So thank you for that Rev. However, I hope you see that I believe we are under siege from many quarters as Christians in America.

It's war, and certain fronts receive more focus at different times.

The lord though Himself seems to indicate that there are two sins that really trump in a sense all others, those being murder, and also those actively engaged in sexual sins, whether adultery/fornicating/homosexuality etc!
Both of them directly attack in some major sense the image of God....

This would be the sexual revolution in general as far as I and my pastor can see. When we cede ground on what God wants for the family and sexuality, we lose BIG, given the last several decades. It all started by screwing up the family and sexuality, we have only progressed to the madness of saying the bible is homophobic since then.

There will be no relief in sight until the society understands that God's plans for the family and sexuality are good, and those ideas that change it are bad. I don't expect this to happen as my generation, the Millennials are completely lost in sin if unbelievers. I also believe that the best way to fight the culture war is with conversions, baptisms, and churches.

On the issue of the culture war having several fronts, I do understand that it may be wise to concentrate on homosexuality for now. However, it seems you have to expand the fight to God's vision for the family and sexuality to have solid doctrine to counter the ideas of liberalism that so many buy into.

The bible tells us to associate with the wicked though, except for fools and wicked Christians from the verses I know (Proverbs 23:9) (1 Corinthians 5:9-11). Shouldn't we then be among the wicked and notorious sinners and then witness to them from among them? I may be reading things wrong I do know.

Lastly, I think we set ourselves up as hypocrites in the eyes of unbelievers, given my conversations with them, if we do not concentrate on a broad front against all the sins that we hate by calling them just that: sin, wrongness, evil. They'll just say ":you're picking on the homosexuals," a group who are in fact picking on us.

I actually agree with you that it seems very odd for us to demand that unbelievers abide by Christian rules for living. However, those who were not Jews were still required to obey the Law when among Jews (Leviticus 24:22). Thus it seems that Christians who have governmental authority should base laws on the bible's definitions of right and wrong. To not do so at the very least exalts a human standard of morality above the bible.

In that case, I am not sure why tact needs to be explained to you.

Steven had what appeared to be an honest question. Belittling him for asking it was not warranted. Mitchell was wrong for doing so.

There is a difference between judging the world and judgment within the church.

We are called to be around sin, to be surrounded by sin, in the world yet remain sinless and beacons of the gospel. That is our purpose.

We are ambassadors in, but not of, the world. We are called to be a sanctified, holy, and sinless people. We are called to exercise discipline and discernment, to expel the wicked from among us (as a church). We are commanded, both individually and corporately, to be holy because God is holy.

Sometimes I wonder if we don’t confuse the two. It seems we often have churches judging the world while ushering the world into its congregation.
