November - Reading 10

Good evening -

Beginning in yesterdays reading of Ezekiel we have entered a series of passages that address the fates of the nations surrounding and affecting Israel. This began in chapter 25 and will continue through chapter 32. Just as in Jeremiah 46-51 the sequence of nations and cities mentioned follows a basic pattern, but this time it seems to spiral out from nearest to furthest beginning with Ammon in present day Jordan and ending with Egypt. Tyre, of whom we read tonight was in what would be present day Lebanon.

In the Gospel of John today we read the conclusion of the story of the man who was healed who had been blind from birth. The acceptance of the man's belief in Christ shows that he indeed did become a disciple. The Pharisees were quite outraged that anyone could consider them spiritually blind. Their refusal to accept Christ proved the fact that they were.

In the Book of 1John today we seem to be rehashing some of the same theology that we stdied in Hebrews and the Gospels. John, in fact, uses the word "know" 42 times. His audience was also well aquainted with these thoughts but the dangerous infiltration of gnosticism made the writing of this Letter necessary. We, too, are not above falling to heresy if we discontinue our study, focus and concentration on God's word.
