Good evening -

The obvious route to take in Ezekiel today would be to talk about the Valley of Dry Bones, perhaps one of the mst famous prophetic visions in the Bible. Instead, I want to concentrate briefly on chapter 36. Notice in verses 22 & 32 that the Lord tells the people of Israel that the coming restoration is not for their sake. This is one of the most powerful messages of the Grace of God found in the Old Testament. None of us deserve the promised salvation bestowed upon us by the Grace of God. It is done because God can do so and chooses to do so. If one turns back to Ezekiel 33:11 they can see that God takes no pleasure in destroying the wicked. He does, however, delight in saving the good.

In the Gospel of John today we see the preamble to the story of the raising of Lazarus. Something that struck me today about this reading is the statement made by Thomas in verse 16. We usually remember Thomas for his skepticism after the Ressurection but here we see a glimpse at the faith and dedication of this seldom mentioned Disciple.

In the Book of 1John we see the author make the statement that those who are saved do not sin. We must apply a bit of common sense to this passage as we all know that all sin and come short of God's Glory (Romans 3:23). Even John in this same Epistle says in verse 1:8 that if we claim we do not sin we are lying. The intent of John's statement here is that one who is saved is characterized by doing what is right as opposed to living unrighteously.
