The problem with this Once Saved Always Saved theory is that time and time again in the Bible, it is pointed out that so many Christians who thought they were going to be saved, will be lost. And the reason is because they just plain didnt want to DO what Jesus SAYS.
Matthew Chapter 7 provides a good illustration of this. First of all we need to understand that Bible verses and chapters are man-made. You have to read the entire passage and imagine Jesus standing there telling the people an entire message... Read the whole of Matthew Chapter 7 to see what it is He is trying to get across.
The chapter begins by Jesus telling us the Law... that whatever we wish others to do unto us we should do unto them... that is a summary of the Law. "Love Thy Neighbor".
Then Jesus goes on to say that FEW will enter into heaven and find the strait gate, the narrow way.
Then Jesus goes on to talk about False Prophets, and that many will come to you wolves in sheep's clothing, but it is by their FRUITS that you will know them... not by their PROFESSION. The bad tree that bears no real fruit will be cut down, just as John the Baptist told the Pharisees who came to be baptised by him that they needed to "Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance. And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire" Mt:3:8-10
Jesus continues saying, not everyone will be saved "but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven".
Jesus then pulls back the curtain of what is going to happen in the future, Many will say on that day "Lord, Lord we have cast out devils, we have prophesied in thy name..." But Jesus will say unto them "Depart from Me, I never KNEW YOU... you that work INIQUITY (sin)"
Then Jesus said that everyone that HEARS HIS SAYINGS AND DOES THEM, will be like a house built upon a rock.
I wish that those who think because they "believe" that they have some sort of automatic pass into heaven would read the whole Bible and not just parts of it that have to do with believing.
Lk:6:46: And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Its like someone describing a police car, over and over saying "its white" "its white"... yes but its also black... and you have to look at the entire thing.
YES the Bible talks about faith and believing but it ALSO talks about alot of other things we must do.
I dont know how many other ways Jesus could try to get this point across to people. Unfortunately, many many will find this out too late.
Matthew 7:
12: Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15: Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16: Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17: Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18: A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19: Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20: Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22: Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23: And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24: Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock
