I am 79 years of age. Not much time left on planet earth. My thought often turn to heaven. Just where is it, and what will I see from heaven with regards to this old earth?

Some point up to heaven. If it is up, will I get a spot immediately over Canada so I can look down upon my family? Will I even be concerned about earth?

Please don't start quoting a lot of scripture. I think in 79 years I have learned a verse or two. I appreicate that any response will be speculative, but that is ok. We are not drafting doctrine here.

How far and how wide can we see and hear from infinity?

    Cheers,

    Jim

Heaven is where God is, of course.

I don't have the mental ability, nor imagination, required to locate it in any precise temporal or spatial way.

I just know it will be sweet and lovely; and my perpetually aching back will no longer "devil" me "over there." ;) [IMG]

well, I have thought about this as well. If there is to be no sadness in heaven, then our ability to see whats going on must be limited, dontcha think? Who wants to see those precious kids and grandkids gettin' into stuff?? [IMG]

    Heaven is a wonderful place
    Filled with Glory and Grace
I want to see my Saviors face
    Heaven is a wonderful place.

Every Good News Club in the nation learns that little ditty, and I catch myself humming it occasionally. I'm pretty limited as to great imaginations so I simply see that the Bible says it'll be great I'll be with my Lord and no more leg and back aches, and I'll still be with my close friends and family.

    My home is in heaven
    Just waiting for me
    And when I get there
    How happy I'll be
    My home is in heaven
    The rent is free
    For Jesus paid it
    On Calvary.

Heaven is, like all places, held within the mind of God. It is not necessarily even a set of places within the known universe. That would mean it was in another "dimension" so to speak.

    Thank you.

Back in the 60's, when I was asked by a local radio station to give a brief devotional to start their day, I spoke about heaven being in another dimension. I asked the listeners to hold our their hands, fingers extended, as far as they could reach. There is heaven. Just beyond their fingertips. It cannot be reached in this flesh, but there it is, just beyond our reach. It is not up or down, but out there in infinity.

"I've found the pearl of greaest price,
    My heart doth sing for joy;
And sing I must, for Christ I have,
Oh, What a Christ have I."

I see heaven as that place where I shall have no common distractions, but my total focus will be consumed by God in Christ. No longer a pilgrim struggling along the way, because I have been found in totality in Him. That is my vision of heaven in these twilight days of my life on earth, however many the Lord shall grant me.

    Cheers, and God bless,

    Jim

What a lovely topic to speculate on....for me heaven will be the Glory of God...all else is not really essential.

Heaven is at the center of God's physical universe. The universe itself is revolving around "heaven" and that is where God's throne is physically located. It is where the Temple is and it is where the angels physically stand and serve before Him continually.

Christ describes Himself as moving spatially "I go AWAY and If I go AWAY I will come AGAIN" HE said He was GOING TO His Father's House. We are safe to stay in that spatial reference Christ used. Those who imagine that "Heaven is no place" are simply "imagining their way out of the Bible".

But since we "do get some imagination" freedom here according to the OP --

When Christ returns to earth FROM heaven - He will pass through Orion. That is the "Direction" from which He will come.

So the good news is that Canada gets to see it some times.

    In Christ,

    Bob

I don't know where it is, but I agree with the songwriter who wrote:

    How beutiful heaven must be,
Sweet home of the ransomed and free.
A haven of rest for the weary,
    How beautiful heaven must be.

    As the song says,

"Just imagine stepping on shore and finding it heaven,
Touching a hand and finding it God's,
Breathing new air and finding it celestial,
Of waking up in glory, and finding it home."

I trust, dear Jim, when I approach the autumn of my life turning toward winter, that I can face it with the tenderness and quiet dignity of this post.

    You have...

    "given my heart
    A change of mood
    And saved some part
Of a day I had rued."

    Thank you!

Heaven isn't a physical "place". It's not a geographical location that we can point to. It's a spiritual state of being. It's that state of being present with the Lord when we are absent from the body.

Not a clue. Scripture is a bit silent on that topic. I'd like to think I will have a preception of my children and others still on the earth, but I just don't know. But not knowing doesn't keep me up at night.

The idea of heaven being "up" has to do with our mental comprehension. If it's only "up" over the Holy Land, then I'm doomed!!

However fa the Lord permits you.

These are interesting questions, and I wish I had the answers. It's all speculative at best. It will be interesting to someday have all the answers, but it ain't gonna happen in my lifetime [IMG]

This is a great question; Jesus told his disciples that there was coming a day in which they would ask him no questions. I believe when you step over into heaven(I do believe it's a physical place) that your limited knowledge now will be joined with the limitless knowledge of Almighty God himself. This I believe is the reason Jesus said you will ask me no questions. Certainly we all have many questions. So if we're not going to ask Jesus Any questions we must be going to have the answers. And where do those answers come from from our minds being joined with Jesus mind. This is a idea that I have had since childhood.
