The accuracy of the bible

    You ask, how can Chick be a brother in Christ if he's a liar? Scripture tells us that all of us, without exception, have sinned and fall short of God's glory. Paul said very clearly that he himself was the chief of all sinners. Chick is no more of a sinner than I am. His deception may affect his righteousness, but if he has accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, then his deception does not affect his salvation. If he is indeed a liar as you accuse him of being, and persists in his state of deception, ALL liars end up in the Lake of Fire. One who "accepts Christ as his Lord and Saviour" must continue to abide in Him as He commands in John 15 - a liar does not do that. Jesus said, "IF you love Me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS" - a liar is hardly loving God nor keeping His commandments! :confused:

    I was going to add this by editing my post but tim e to do so had elapsed. So...

    1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

    Note, "such WERE some of you" (past tense) A truly regenerated person does not continue in a state of sinfulness. He may sin but does not persist in rebellion against the Spirit of the Lord when convicted of sin. He confesses, repents of his sin and is forgiven and cleansed "from all unrighteousness" as the Apostle John teaches in 1 John 1:8,9.

    The problem here is, I think, one of Bible worship rather than Bible study.

    The text(s) used in the translation we know as the 1611 KJV were the best available at the time.

    Here's what I mean by "best:" in attempting to bring an accurate translation of the writer's original words, one looks at the age of the manuscript (the closer to the autograph, the more likely to avoid copy errors) and to the amount of reliability in that manuscript's "family."

    A manuscript "family" is a grouping of manuscripts with similar features. Remember that, until Gutenburg, manuscripts were copied by hand. Hand copying, even careful hand-copying, can and often does lead to copy errors. The overwhelming majority of these errors are minor; and when copies of the manuscripts in error are made, more errors may happen to those. Thus the common errors form "families," and a manuscript family's reliability is determined by its age, origin, and number of family members.

    The task, then, for translators is to attempt to understand and convey the original intention of the writer, whether or not that original intention agrees with a previous translation. The translators of the NIV, NASB, and others assumed the reader would be mature enough to understand textual difficulties and draw their own conclusions, with the aid of the Spirit.
