Let your woman keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to
Speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if
    They want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home;
for it is shameful for women to speak in church. Or did the word of
God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? 1
    Corinthians 14:34-36
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is
the head of the wife as also Christ is head of the Church; and He is
the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the Church is subject to
Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
    Ephesians 5:22-24
In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel,
with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls
or costly clothing, but which is proper for women professing
godliness, with good works. Let a women learn in silence with all
submission. And I do not permit a women to teach or to have authority
over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into
transgression. Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they
continue in faith, love and holiness, with self-control. 1 Timothy 2:9-15
For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall your sons marry you; and
as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice
    over you. Isaiah 62:5
But even if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin
marries, She has not sinned. Nevertheless such will have troubles in
the flesh, but I would spare you. 1 Corinthians 7:28
So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will
be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from
that law, so that she in no adulteress, though she has married another
    man. Romans 7:3
Similarly, teach the older woman to live in a way that is appropriate
for someone serving the Lord. They must not go around speaking evil
of others and must not be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach
others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to
love their husbands and their children, to care of their homes, to do
good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring
shame to the word of God. Titus 2:3-5

I don't think its agreement.......although most will agree because it is the belief of most here on the Baptist board who are Baptist believe that women should indeed keep silent.

Most know my stance on the matter. [IMG]

I do find it odd when people just post Scripture without indication of why they are doing so.

When I saw this last night, I wondered if Mr. Dahlen wanted comment or if something had happened or if this was his favorite passage.

It's his first post -- we just don't know. But since it is his first post, maybe this is as good a way to get started as any :D

Maybe his interested in what you think about it regardless of his reasons for posting it.

I sometime when talking to people quote a scripture without following up with anything and Let their own heart convict or encourage them.

I just talked to Jacob Dahlen on the phone...he asked me to post:

Micah 1:8--"Therefore I will wail and howl, I will go stripped and naked: I will make a wailing like the dragons, and mourning as the owls."

(just kidding about talking to JD...I may not feed the trolls, but I can bait them.) :D

I find it interesting that it's most often men who are the ones wielding scripture on this topic? Shouldn't we men be first and foremost concerned with what scripture says on the proper behavior of a Christian Men???

I notice that it easier for men to be expected to take biblical correction/accountablity from women than women from men.

I know woman that would read the above and respond defensively rather than say Amen, to God be the glory.

Hmmm....you must post on another board other than the Baptist Board. ;)

Here, discussions like these are all about what restrictions are placed on women. You know, putting a woman in her "place". I can't tell you how many discussions here about women's dress, conduct, cowtowing to her husband, etc.....have nothing to do with God's Word nor His perfect plan for His people.

Oh, you think so? You are right! Count me in brother. [IMG]

I was immediately defensive. Not at God's Word, but at the presentation of it.

The way that the original poster presented the above scriptures was INTENDED to offend. There was no intention of amicable discussion amongst christian brothers and sisters. Don't you get it?

The OP was intended to get a rise out people.

    Peace to you and yours.

You said, these passages were intended to put women in their place... What place is that?

And how did they get out of it?

Why be defensive either way? What is there to defend? What are you defending against?

Do you believe that women were created for men and the both need eachother?

Tazman, please go back and re-read my post. I did not say that these passages from the Bible were intended to put women in their place. I said that discussions on the BB pertaining to these passages have many times ended up offending women.

Brother, I am not exactly sure what you mean by that. [IMG]

I was defensive not because of God's Word, but because, as I said, of the presentation of it.

The original poster simply snatched and grabbed isolated verses on women's restrictions and threw them together without context to one another and without relating them to one another or to any other verses about love or marriage or the worth of women and just heaped them into one long paragraph without any purpose to it other than to elicit a knee-jerk reaction.

    No, I do not.

I believe that women were created to make humanity complete. The only thing about God's initial creation in Genesis that was "not good" was that man was alone.

When God had Adam to name all of the animals, God was giving Adam a lesson about himself. Adam saw other animals with mates and he saw there was no creature to complement him or to be his peer.

Woman was created to be man life's partner. To stand by him and with him. To love him and respect him. To be his companion and make his life complete in a way that no other creation of God could do.

He needed her. She, after being created, needed him.

Taz: Amen [IMG] That is a woman fulfilling Her role in Gods creation. But I guess I'm not seeing where this is contrary to the fact that "Women were created for men" by God I might add. ;)

Sister, I think you, like most women concerning these things is responding out of fear. What fear? Well, I can only speculate. Maybe that you will lose some type of position or something.

    SO:
Taz: So did He need her first? I'll stop. The facts are there, but so is pride.

I can't speak for scarlett, (I wouldn't even try) but I see so much male domination and false authority from guys that maybe women that are "defensive" are that way, because they have been treated as worthless in the past..

Some have even used these scriptures to spiritually abuse women into thinking they are less than man.. I understand the verse that says women were created for man the way Scarlett does..

But so many men have taken that verse out of context so that when a man uses that verse some women automatically think they are going to use it against them..

We should thank God everyday for giving us women.
After all, who would be here without one?

Every once in a while I have to put my wife in her proper place - right beside me, heart-to-heart, hand-in-hand serving God together!

Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: "Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all." Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
    Proverbs 31:25-30 NASB
