Can a person be saved who doesn't believe in eternal security?

    Let us pray for this young man to get an education.

    Now I am and independant fundamental Bible believing Baptist who prefers the KJV but reognizes the need,use, and validity of other english translations of God's Holy Word.I also recognize the need for Bible college and seminary training which includes language study(greek&hebrew)as well as good Bible doctrine and sound theology.

    Although I am not an intellectual myself I do enjoy reading,research,and study. So although I may not be the brightest bulb in the box, I am not the dimmest either.I think as you will find in most places there is a wide cross section of mental abilities, whether it be liberal or fundamental.

    If a person can be 'lost' by not believing "OSAS" then the main objective of teaching must be to psyche them into believing it at some instantaneous point in time, since if it is true and the person believed it even if just for an instant, its truth must endure to salvation, or else it's not true.

    What a bunch of baloney this whole issue is, as well as that post-and-run coward who started it.

    Of course they can. If they were truly born of the Spirit...yes, of course.

    They will struggle in areas where God would not have them struggle, but they would of course still be saved.

    Then you're not typical 5-pointers, gentlemen; the TULIP-pickers I've known have all been miserable so-and-sos whose use of the English language is limited to sentences beginning with the word "Don't...".

    Looking forward to a cuppa in Heaven with both of you...proper Christians only drink tea, don't you know...and God of course is English ;)

    Many Christians do not believe in eternal security and cite Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:26-29.

    As a youth I really believed you could lose your salvation through rebellion against the Lord by sinning after knowing Jesus. It was only in my third year of Bible College that, through my independent study, that I came to believe in the perfect security of the believer. In I John 5:18 by studying the Greek via Kenneth Wuest I read that is Christ who keeps believers and noone or nothing can tear us out of his hand and loving care.

    Many are taught that people like us teach that one can get saved and then future behavior does not matter. Sin that grace may abound. Since Jesus takes away all our sins, we have our ticket for Heaven--not matter what.

    I agree, especially with the last part - many are under the impression that the OSAS doctrine gives a licence to sin, the denomination I belong to holds to that! I personally am leaning towards OSAS but do wonder about the verses in Hebrews you pointed out.

    Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

    6:1 & 2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

    I guess when I posted this, I assumed that being BAPTISTboard.com, everyone here would believe in eternal security. The post was not to debate eternal security, but to debate that a person who doesn't believe in eternal security is not saved.

    Whether a person believes in or doesn't believe in eternal security, does not make that person saved. The only Salvation is through believing on the Lord Jesus Christ.

    If believeing in eternal security was the only thing someone had to believe in, then many outside of Christ would be saved. That is not the case.

    Jesus said 'No one cometh unto the Father, but by me.'

    Most people I've ran into on this board believes in Eternal Security including myself.

    Some believe that you are save even if you stop believing and stop following Christ.
    :confused:
    There are others (usually in the same group) that believe you can live completely worldly (while believing in Christ) and die in that state and you will still go to heaven. :rolleyes:
    Yet there are those who take Christ at his words and persevere till the end (Rev 3) and are saved. While beliving all of the Bible promises (warning and encouragemnts).

    But you ask can a person be saved who know differently than you, yes they can. No one on this board is ever Completely right about everything. You may be able to learn something true from those that are outside of your group that can save your life. [​IMG]

    There are more than a few Baptists who have learned that the concept of eternal security was entirely foreign to the early church and that the doctrine of eternal security was first formulated in the 16th century during the Protestant Reformation as a byproduct of a seriously erroneous view of the sovereignty of God that was first formulated a few years earlier.

    There are also more than a few Baptists who have learned that the “proof texts” used to support the doctrine of eternal security, when very carefully read, especially in the Greek New Testament, do NOT teach that doctrine.

    There are also more than a few Baptists who have learned that the “proof texts” used to support the doctrine of conditional security, when very carefully read, especially in the Greek New Testament, DO teach that doctrine.

    If no one could be saved unless they believe in the doctrine of eternal security, no one was saved until the Protestant Reformation and Jesus, his eleven faithful disciples, Luke, Paul, James, Jude, and the Church Fathers that it pleased God to use to establish the New Testament Canon and to formulate the doctrine of the Trinity will all burn for eternity in the fires of hell. It could not be more obvious that it is the heretics and unbelievers rather than the followers of Christ who will spend eternity in the fires of hell.

    Here are some of the verses in the Bible that for the first 1,500 years of the Church were understood to teach the doctrine of conditional security, and which since then have been used by the large majority of Bible scholars, pastors, and Christian lay people to teach the doctrine of conditional security:

    Matt. 13:20. "The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
    21. yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away.

    Matt. 24:14. "For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.
    15. "To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.
    16. "Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents.
    17. "In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more.
    18. "But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money.
    19. "Now after a long time the master of those slaves *came and *settled accounts with them.
    20. "The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, 'Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.'

    12. Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.

    Gal. 5:1. It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
    2. Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
    3. And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law.

    1 Tim. 4:1. But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
    2. by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
    3. men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.

    2 Tim 4:1. I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:
    2. preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
    3. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,
    4. and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

    Heb. 3:12. Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.

    Heb. 6:4. For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,

    12. But these, like unreasoning animals, born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, reviling where they have no knowledge, will in the destruction of those creatures also be destroyed,

    Keep Yourselves in the Love of God

    18. that they were saying to you, "In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts."
    19. These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly- minded, devoid of the Spirit.
    20. But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
    21. keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

    I used to belong to a denomination that doesn't teach once saved always saved: the United Methodist Church. I believe that if I had died while still a Methodist I would still go to Heaven because I believed in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord.

    I'm currently a Lutheran, and Martin Luther taught the final assurance of salvation.

    The following verses have been used to support the possibility of losing one's salvation:

    I hope that your are aware that the Lutheran Church does NOT teach eternal security but that those who are truly regenerate can fall from grace and lose their salvation. Philip Melanchthon, a close friend of Martin Luther and a Professor of New Testament at Wittenberg University, drafted a confession of faith and presented it to Emperor Charles V on June 25, 1530. It is now commonly known at The Augsburg Confession and it is the foundation of Lutheran theology. Notice especially the words that I have emphasized using bold type in Article XII of that Confession:
    May I recommend that you read the following Lutheran Commentaries on Hebrews:

    Thank you for that information, Craigbyhesea. I was never informed of that when I took my church's membership class and studied Luther's small catechism. I'm going to get a copy of the Augsburg Confessions and other Lutheran writings and find out more. Thank you again. That was an eye opener. [​IMG]
