Scripture teaches that one’s righteous standing before God can be lost.
Believers must be sanctified unto holiness progressively – for salvation is a process!

“… let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil … Whoever has been born of God does not sin (habitually) … In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest:
whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God” (1 John 3:7-10)

Please notice who “the children of God” are vs. who belongs to Satan.

Believers who are “faithful” will be obedient to Jesus’ commandments and
practice righteousness … and will have a standing of righteousness before the Lord.

“… you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.” (1 John 2:29)
But, do all believers who are born of God practice righteousness?

“… who fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him” (Acts 10:35)

“All Scripture … is profitable for … instruction in righteousness
(i.e. instruction in the practicing of righteousness)” (2 Timothy 3:16)

“… we, having died to sins, should live for righteousness
(i.e. live for the practicing of righteousness)” (1 Peter 2:24)

“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness and a godly life
… Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living”
    (1 Timothy 6:11, 2 Timothy 2:22)

“… you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living … Now you must give
yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy.” (Romans 6:16-19)
“holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”
    (Hebrews 12:14)

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously” (Matthew 6:33)
    Yes, we need to
seek to live like Jesus lived, which is righteously!

“But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith
the righteousness God has promised to us.” (Galatians 5:5)

Living by the Spirit (practicing righteousness) results in continuing to be righteous!

"I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation – the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ”
    (Philippians 1:10-11)

The fruit of being saved is a lifestyle of righteousness!

“Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin … Those who have been born into
God’s family do not make a practice of sinning … We know that God’s children
    do not make a practice of sinning” (1 John 3:6, 3:9, 5:18)

“For it would have been better if they had never known the way to righteousness than
to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life.” (2 Peter 2:21)

“The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness
of men who suppress the truth (by living) in unrighteousness.” (Romans 1:18)

Of course, this is all a continuation of what God demanded in the old covenant:
“Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright
(i.e. by practicing righteousness) I will show the salvation of God.” (Psalms 50:23)

This multitude of Scripture verses should convince us that
“works righteousness” is also required for salvation.

That is not a good translation. Because it would mean no one is born from God and no one actually believes in God's Christ, 1 John 5:1.

1 John 2:29, ". . . If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him. . . ."
Because, ". . . Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. . . ." 1 John 3:6 (1 John 1:4; Romans 4:15; Romans 6:14; John 15:6.) There is a legal standing which only those who abide in Christ have, Those who do not abide in Him do not know and have not known Christ (Matthew 7:21-22).

"This multitude of Scripture verses should convince us that
“works righteousness” is also required for salvation."

You might want to specify the details of "required for salvation"

For example, Far as motives go, the requirement for salvation is YOU NEED TO BE SINNER.

Even your admonishment for folks to stop sinning can be considered a saving mercy from God and the actual salvation itself.
Some folks here would say God would never show any mercy to a particular kind of person.

"Believers must be sanctified unto holiness progressively – for salvation is a process!"
Can be process, Its also possible to experience a shocking event, holy spirit can spread like a fire, someone can be a saint instantly.

The goal is always Love. Sincerity and Honesty.

    1 Timothy 1
5But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

    Two extremes to avoid:
    1 corinthians 13

2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.

You can pour your whole life out if the love and sincerity is not there, the works are meaningless.

I can feed millions but if I got no empathy or am inconsiderate or have a selfish motive, that sincere love may never kick on.

How do we teach others? Its by example. Jesus Christ is our example. I didn't see him keep score or obsess over his own salvation. He had God the Father for example does only what the Father teaches him.

By example we need to be the Father's sons.

I believe the Biblical term for this would be "bovine skubalon".

To remind us of the dangers of false doctrines, I guess.

Would you care to show me a verse quoted out of context, and explain why?

Apostle Johns states that we stay right by trusting in Christ and His grace/merits, not in our own efforts and works!

Again, you've completely missed the fact that salvation is not by works:

" For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
9 not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
    ( Ephesians 2:8-10 ).

This one alone convinces me that works of any kind are not required...they are necessary evidences that "mark out" a child of the living God.

I'll give you a hint. If it begins with a conjunction or conjunctive phrase, it's out of context.

I think you have over looked this verse,
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

You Know by taking a verse from one place and another from another place shows just how confused you really are. Not to mention your little additions to the text with your input. There are warnings in scripture about adding to the Bible. It isn't righteous.

Believers remain righteous because they are clothed in the righteousness of Jesus their Lord, not their own righteousness.

If anyone believes they will gain heaven because of their own righteousness, they have decieved themselves.

    Peace to you

I agree. If we did not ordain and purchase our salvation, then how can it be ours to lose?

The only way we could lose our salvation is if God's promises could not be trusted, if Christ was incompetent to keep that which the Father has given Him, or if He is unable to keep us from falling.

In order for the OP's premise to be true. God has to be capricious, dishonest, and incompetent.

That's not the God of the Bible.

    Looking at the above ...
-- his workmanship --- God is working on us (but we have free will).
-- created for good works --- We choose whether we do good works.
-- God has ordained that we should co-operate -- Again free will.

BACs were NOT created to be robots with NO free will.

I believe that I have repeatedly said ...
This (and similar NT verses) refers to one's INITIAL salvation, not his FINAL salvation!
If a believer is finally saved (or not) depends on whom he chooses to serve:
God ...or... his flesh (and Satan).

    It's all about being tested.
It's all about overcoming (Rev 3:21), or not.

Eph 4:30 KJV - And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

At what point in the process of salvation does the Spirit of God seal the believer unto the day of redemption?

Process of Salvation! Your question seems as if it may take a while. Salvation is instantaneous and happens the moment we believe.
