I do not believe I have seen a more blatant translation disagreement as demonstrated between the HCSB and the CSB on this verse.

    Wow, that is a doozy.

Isn't the 7th hour in Roman timekeeping 1:00 in the afternoon?

    Read the HCSB footnote.

What does it say? My HCSB does not have a footnote on that passage

The HCSB is possibly the worst professional translation ever made.

    It says:

Or seven in the evening, lit at the seventh hour, see note at Jn 1:39; an alt time reckoning would be one in the afternoon.

The seventh hour to the Jews was 1Pm
They split the day between sunset and sunrise into two twelve hour sections.

Rendering 1:00 pm or the 7th hour is accurate.

Do we not do the same with out time pieces except we put in an AM and PM?

Read the footnote? What does that mean? That it's okay for the HCSB to dump garbage all over the Bible, on every page, as long as they have something better in a footnote? The seventh hour is seven in the morning? It's like the HCSB committee just wanted to try to prove how stupid Christians are that anyone would buy, use, or recommend the intended joke that is the HCSB.

I love a Bible with good footnotes, but footnotes don't matter most of the time.

I don't have immediate access to the footnotes to comment.

Does the footnote actually say 7:00 in the morning?

Is there a footnote concerning the time of the crucifixion?

John 4:52 (HCSB) He asked them at what time he got better. “Yesterday at seven in the morning the fever left him,” they answered.

Footnote: John 4:52 Or seven in the evening; lit at the seventh hour; see note at Jn 1:39; an alt time reckoning would be at one in the afternoon

You can tell from the footnote that the HCSB also deliberately messed up Jn 1:39, lol. The crucifixion account is full of nonsense, per the HCSB style, but some of the timing there is done correctly.

This is just nonsense. If it's not the original language, footnotes absolutely matter all of the time.
