In another forum I just read a catholic easter worship prayer and already reading this stuff made me sick, it was so drippy and religious and I thought wow, I'm so glad for not being catholic. [IMG]
This religious stuff gives me the creeps. :(

I too am happy your not Catholic but religion and the "creeps" seems a little out there. If you meant their paganistic tradition I could understand a little more. I'll pray that the
Holy Spirit lifts you up closer to our heavenly father.
    Peace,
    martin

As an Anglican, I am catholic, and very happy for it. I am just as at home as when I was a Baptist minister. The same gospel. I have not been robbed of my baptistic theology. We even allow baptism by immersion of adults when requested.

There is something about presenting the gospel without the trappings of any denomination, and there is no need for badmouthing any denomination. Try loving them as would the Lord Jesus Christ.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I would be a Peresbyterian. You know, one of the two forms of polity mentioned in the New Testament, along with Episcopal polity...

I simply don't like this whole Mary stuff and such things like the rosary. This is totally religious.

I occasionally envy my Catholic and Orthodox brothers because they don't have to worry about theology, don't have to worry about believing "in" the wrong stuff, and have someone to talk to without worrying about hearing it across town the next day.

Isn't the whole Bible, and Christian religion in general, inherently religious?

I think we're losing something in the translation here, my German friend.

I am thankful that I am not Catholic because then I wouldn't be a Primitive Baptist.

    If I was a Catholic, then I suppose I would be thankful I wasn't a Primitive Baptist.

Maybe we should just say that we're thankful God has given us a limited understanding on some things, and pray that He would also give that understanding to others.

    BillWald,

Worry about theology? Its an unimaginable joy to have Gods written scriptures here to dig into to and feed on for the rest of our earthly lives.

Its an absolutly tragic thing that Catholics are commanded by their hellish hierarchy to never deviate from the Catholic false interpretations.

Again I'm mystified. Its an incredible joy to feed on Gods wonderful "food".

More twilight zone material there. I have no idea what you are talking about there. Are you saying Catholic never gossip? Are you actually saying that???

The rosary; A case could be made for it being a quite slippery slope against the commands of god speaking of vain repetition as mentioned in matthew
Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray use not vain repetition.
    also in exodus graven images/idolatry
Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God,
And Mary being portrayed as parallel to Christ the "co-mediator" see
1st timothy 2 : 5-6 There is only one mediator that is Jesus Christ. Also Hebrew 7:25 and Ephesians. 3:12
This stuff does not sound religous rather blasphemous!

I would think any attitude of "thank you Lord I'm not..." is the same attitude the Pharisee had when Christ was comparing the sinner who poured out his heart to God in repentance compared to the Pharisee "praying"..."Thank you Lord I'm not like him".

Be thankful, not that you aren't something, but because of Him you are!

No, one can pray repetition prayers but they must come from the heart not just be blatant things. Also if you would take the verse in context much of what is being spoken against is the Pharisees pride and long organized prayer in Public. If one studies the Passover which Jesus partook of His last night on earth it is filled with repetitional prayers. As long as it comes from the heart and is said truely.(BTW do you pray the same blessing over food every night? Or do you pray a different prayer over food every day every meal your alive?)
    In Christ,
    Nate

    Eccere nullus-a-um salus-utis externus Christus!

I do not say the same prayer daily, though if I did that is still not repition, though if it was then the way we are taught to pray...Our Father would fall in that same category. Watch ewtn with the nuns sometime, praying the rosary that'll show you what the definition of repetition is. I can recite the prayers and how to pray the rosary if you would like and you will see they repeat Hail Mary continually throughout this process.

Where have you learned that one can pray repetitous prayers? Scriptural address or church doctrine?

In the Anglican Church, we use set prayers in public worship. They are meant to lead the people in prayer, and we expect the people to also pray on their own, and in private, as the service proceeds...for example: Let us pray,,,,for the Queen,,,for political leaders....the church...the people,,,,those who are ill........etc.

Certainly not meant to be vain repetition, even though it may be perceived by outsiders as such. I should hope the Roman Catholics believe the same. I will give them the benefit of doubt.

    Cheers,

    Jim
