Moderate consumption is affirmed (drink a little wine) provided it does not hinder your relationship with God and does not cause a sibling to stumble since some people should remain teetotalers.

Those who feel it is ok to drink in moderation typically interpret Jesus turning the water into wine made fermited wine. Jesus' argument against placing new wine in old wine skins suggests otherwise. For the record, I do not think Jesus made pasteurized wine.

I would immediately recognize that the person was trying to determine how self-righteous they had to be in order to be saved.
We feed legalism and self-righteousness when we declare that Christians must not do this and must do that. It speaks the false gospel of doing more good than bad in order for God to welcome you into heaven.
I would tell the individual that God's acceptance of you is not based upon the works you do. God's acceptance of you is based upon God's gracious kindness in substituting your sin for Christ Jesus perfect atonement. God calls on you to believe and repent of sin. Do you believe and repent?
Their reaction will tell me whether God has chosen to save them at that moment or whether they are still in rebellion against God.

Not only was it real, but Jesus will drink real wine with us someday in the Kingdom.

Paul's admonition to us to not cause stumbling is due to brothers and sisters who bring their legalism and weak faith into the body of believers. We are called to mentor them and teach them to live in grace, through faith, not to live in legalistic fear. For some, the culture of legalism runs very deep. We who no longer live in legalism must be patient and gracious. At times we must deny our freedom in order to support our weaker brother. We are family. Let us not be selfish in our freedom.

No, as that would fit under preference/conviction, but always wrong to get drunk on it!
And there would be times better not to partake, such as when a fellow Christian might be offended or be tempted to lapse into drinking again!

Personally, I gave up drinking before I was saved, as I got drunk easily, a sure sign of susceptibility to alcoholism.

But if I did still drink, I'd never do it in fronta any outsider, as it might lead someone to think it was all right, even though their conscience said no.

I know another Christian who has weakened kidney function, whose Dr. told him to drink one beer daily for improved kidney health. He gets his beer from an outlet where no one knows him, & disposes of the cans from a black plastic bag at a local aluminum recycler for cash. He makes sure no one else but his wife sees him using beer, for the same reasons I gave above.

Do I think he's sinning ? OF COURSE NOT !

He drinx his beer for medicinal purposes, not to get high.

 

Neither of those say that being drunk is a sin.
