I'm sure we're all familiar with it. Statements like "Belief in Eternal Security is necessary to be saved, because otherwise you have a faulty view of true justification". What are your thoughts on this?

In my opinion, when most people repent, and call out to God for salvation, they aren't necessarily thinking at the time about eternal security. In my own experience, at the time of my salvation, I repented and called out to God out of a contrite heart, asking for His forgiveness and salvation. Neither the doctrine of eternal security, nor the thought that at some point I might stray from God, ever crossed my mind during my calling out to God. I'm assuming this is the same for most.

Someone in my church had mentioned, that he does not believe folks that do not believe in eternal security are truly born again. (For example, Mennonites).

What are your thoughts? Is not believing in eternal security the same as believing in a faith+works salvation?

Personally, I believe the Mennonite friends I have are no less born again than I am. I think people will be surprised in heaven, at who "made it", and who didn't. "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion".

This to me is same as non Calvinists, afre they really saved? yes indeed, as one is saved same way, but they would just not really understand eternal security as taught in scriptures!
now IF they see being saved as a mixture of good works and grace, then doubt validity of salvation!

Are you saying that God will provide the correct doctrinal beliefs through the Spirit alone?

I don't think I could agree entirely. I believe that "If you accept one light, God will give you another".
But in the case of Apollos, he needed to be instructed "more perfectly" in the way of the Lord.

From Acts 18, And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Perhaps I am wrong. But from my understanding of scripture, a man can be right with God but not be "all right" in all of his doctrines, hence the passage in Acts 18. Also, "Instruct a wise man, and he will be yet wiser".

Changed heart, changed man!... The Old Line Sovereign Grace Primitive Baptist I grew up with believe that, the Salvation of man is in Gods hand not theirs... My motto has always been from the cradle to the grave he WILL save... I don't see a remnant of Salvation I see a multitude... He chooses, births and saves his own, and he does it alone... Why would not your Mennonite friends be saved because they believe different than we do?... So we are save by denomination, is that how Salvation goes?... We are saved by the Sovereign Grace of Almighty God by his Son Jesus Christ which none of us deserve... Brother Glen:)

There is the Illumination of the Holy Spirit, and there are also gifts to the church God gave as in pastors, teachers, theologians etc!

I didn't know squat about doctrine when I became a believer.

I knew I was a failure and messed things up.
I knew God could help me.
I knew he was able to help me through what Jesus did.
I called out for help. I trusted he would.
    ...he did!
I've thought about it. I don't think even central doctrines (such as the Trinity are necessary).
Yet, I don't think that one could deny them and claim to be a Christian. :Alien

Thankfully, the Holy Spirit did not require me to pass a test to determine my beliefs before He convicted me of my need for salvation though Christ. He has put great Bible scholars in my path of life to teach me and solidify my convictions.
He is the ultimate teacher of Biblical truth. He is the source of conviction when I need correction.

How is one's name not in the book of life? The promise is if one is born of God one's name will never be removed.
1 John 5:4, ". . . For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. . . ." (1 John 5:1) Revelation 3:5, ". . . He that overcometh, . . . I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, . . ." Revelation 20:15, ". . . whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. . . ." (Exodus 32:33) (Psalms 69:27-28)

None what? 2 John 1:9, ". . . Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. . . ." John 15:6, ". . .. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. . . ."
