Here's Ephesians 4. Explain.

He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

 

Christ gave Gifts Ephesians 4:11-16 to bring the church into the fullness of Christ. Apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers will continue equipping God’s people until His return. The onus is on you my friend to prove otherwise.

 

Some people like to compare themselves to one of the prophets or an apostle or even Jesus to justify their behavior towards others.

But a prophet or apostle they are not.

They all seem to fall short in other ways.

That still doesn't answer my question. How is Paul using the word apostolos in that verse? I provided a link to the use of the word in the Bible and in ancient Greek culture. Like baptizo, apostolos is a common word and carries various meanings. The onus is on you, my friend, in showing the use and meaning of Apostle today. I wait on your detailed explanation.

How is Apostleship defined in Ephesians 4 so that you can apply it to Hudson Taylor and Jonathan Livingstone?

 

Yes, they were commissioned by the risen Lord. Their ministries are proof of it. The fruit of their ministries express that they were apostles. Apostles are sent ones with a message. They are envoys. They go where there is no gospel access and they lay a foundation of Christ where He is yet to be named. We call them missionaries. missio—sent or to send. Missio Dei—the sending nature of God. Church planters, missionaries and apostles—they have a vision for the Kingdom of God expanding through Gospel outreach where there is none. Apostles have to still be around because there are people and geographical locations that have no church and no gospel access.

now, the onus is on you my friend. Pastors don’t go into places and start churches. They are the byproduct of an apostle starting a church and training up leadership. You may need to start changing your paradigm.

 

Please show the documentation where Jesus came to them and told them they were commissioned by Him to spread the gospel. The onus is upon you to show this. Otherwise, I claim that God gave them both the gift of evangelism and teaching.

Just because a person goes into an unreached area that does not make them an apostle. Was Amy Carmichael an Apostle because she went to unreached people in India? How about Bruce Olson (Brutchko) who went to the Amazon?

The onus is on you to show that Jesus physically came to them all and personally commissioned them as Apostles.

there were upper case Apostles (Sent) originally 12 then 13 perhaps 14. these lived and saw the LORD in the flesh.

now we have lowercase apostles (sent) which most call missionaries, thousands over the centuries, sent by the Spirit. they have seen the LORD with the eyes of faith heard Him with the ears of faith.

 

I read my Bible. I know you have no documentation that Jesus directly commissioned others outside of the Bible as Apostles. God has given evangelists who spread out across the world. This is biblical. No bias involved.
