February - Reading 13

Good evening -

In Exodus tonight, I would like to draw your attention to verses 29 -35, the radiant face of Moses. My NIV had a footnote to crossreference this with 2 Corinthians 3: 7-18 and the text notes that go with it. I found this crossreference very interesting. Remember, Paul, a former Pharisee, is the author of this letter and I am sure that his priestly class studied much into the radiant face of Moses. My NIV text notes on this New Testament passage are as follows: <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> 3:7-18 Paul is defending his "ministry" of the new covenant in Christ (cf. v.6;4:1) and here compares the experiences of Moses, who mediated the old covenant of Sinai, and his own as a minister of the new covenant. But he now applies the word "ministry" to the law that was "engraved in letters on stone" and to the spirit, who writes "on tablets of human hearts" (v.3) The point of the comparison is the fading of the glory that shone on Moses' face and the "ever increasing glory" reflected in the faces of those who minister the new covenant. This contrast in regard to glory serves to highlight the temporary and inadequate character of the old covenant and the permanent an effective character of the new covenant.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>I just figured I'd share that with you. The radiance of Moses' face faded, hence the veil, whereas the radiance we show the world increases. We have no need to veil ourselves.

In Matthew tonight we see a story of immense faith from a Canaanite woman whose daughter was demon possesed. Again, it is the believers faith to which Christ attributed the healing. Why do you suppose Christ did not react to her until she begged?

Our reading in Acts tonight breaks mid-sentence and I will wait to comment on that passage tomorrow, Lord willing.

Clint, when the woman asked Jesus to heal her daughter, Jesus knew that the woman was full of sins. When she said," Truth, Lord: and yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table". (Matt 15:27) She was repenting her sins. Jesus said, " O woman great is thy faith" (Matt 15:28) She was forgiven and Jesus made her daughter well.
