    Good evening -

Tonight, Leviticus is two more chapters of purification rites, Acts is a reiteration of the Damascus road account, and I rarely comment on Psalms.

That leaves me with Matthew 19: 1- 15.

This is a very personal passage for me. Margie and I are both in our second marriage and this passage came up in our conversations more than once. It is difficult in these times to adhere to scripture but Lord knows, we try.
I don't like dissecting scripture to find loopholes or to bend its meaning and this passage stared at me from the text for some time. In verse 8, Christ tells why divorce occurs. It is because of hard hearts and I would say that our situations were no different than those that He is speaking of in this verse. We both had hard marriages and hard partners with which to live. In my divorce proceedings, I felt very justified in following the instructions of 1 Corinthians 7:15. My marriage was terribly unequally yoked and when my first wife filed for divorce, it was like a splinter had been removed from my hind quarters! At the time, I had no intention of remarrying and I felt very comfortable and relieved to be divorced.

Then, years later, I'm at a gas station not far from home and I see this GREAT looking woman walking to the door. It wasn't until she was right up on me that I realized that it was Margie. We were both on our way to a get together at a mutual friend's home. You see, I've known her since sixth grade and we even dated for a short while when we were in college. From that moment until now, she has never left my mind. She was in a failing marriage (I won't go into her circumstances) and we exchanged screen names for AOL AIM and started communicating. It took no time before I realized I was very in love with her.

She had made the decision to divorce at the time just before we had seen each other and so we dated through her seperation. As soon as the divorce went through, we set the date. Then there was that verse. If I married her, it would cause us to be committing adultery! I studied this passage long and hard and came to the conclusion that verse six is just as prominent as verse 9: "So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man seperate." Neither of us had a Biblical marriage the first time round. The roles that are defined in the Bible had been ignored and abused. We were both confident that this marriage would be a joining by God.

I know that not everyone will agree with this summation. I know that some may say we are living in a sinful relationship. The thing is, we ALL sin and live in sin and are in constant need of forgiveness. Tomorrow we will read the salvation that I lean upon, verses 25 & 26:"When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, 'Who then can be saved?'

Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

    May God bless you

    - Clint

I was feeling a bit ` sorry for myself ` today, and found this verse in the reading Psalm 42:
11Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Feeling better now ...... this put things back into perspective.
