    Good evening -

In Matthew tonight, we see among other things the mother of James and John asking that her sons have preferrential seating in Heaven next to Christ. Jesus had just once again predicted His betrayal and death and He asks the brothers, "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?"
That's a hard question for a Christian to answer. Many believers call on God when the times are hard so that He can help them carry their crosses. Fewer believers are actually able to pick up a cross and follow Christ through His ministry and onto Golgotha. But it is but a very few that can actually follow Christ right up on to the cross. This kind of obedience requires perseverence, humility (as Christ points to in verses 26 - 28), and in my opinion it takes a great deal of mettle.

Is anyone else enjoying Acts as much as I am these past couple days? It's so adventuresome! I like how Paul, a prisoner on the ship, rises to the top as the true spiritual leader. In verse 43, one can see that the centurion must have thought to himself, "There's something about this guy..."

May God bless all of you

Glad to see an illuminating discussion, I will try to read it regularly and participate occassionally. Also curious how you are picking the readings.

It peeked my cuiosity because it is remaniscent of they way scripture is read at Sunday/daily mass.

Todays readings at Mass for example are

First Reading(typically from OT): Isaiah 43:18-25
    Psalm(daily): Psalms 41:2-13
Second Reading(sunday only): Second Corinthians 1:18-22
    Gospel(daily): Mark 2:1-12

I`m enjoying the Acts reading adventure too, and I`d never have tackled Leviticus alone .....thanks for the company.

    Hi BAC -

We are following the schedule set forth by the Discipleship Journal. You can find the entire plan at the link entitled " Bible Reading Plan " at the bottom of any page on the site. Just so you are aware, the plan does not include the Apocrypha though some comments are made about it in the November reading concerning the Book of Jude and if I remember right I used a link to it for Ezekiel's visit to the pottery shop..

Gwyneth, I may not have made it either if not for the scheduled regiment of the program. Buckle up though! Numbers is just a few days ahead and the long list of unpronouncable names in 1Chronicles looms on the not too distant horizon. [IMG]

I'll try to add some comments on Leviticus later this evening.

Thanks for the response Clint, looking forward to it.

FYI just so you are aware, to a Catholic the Apocrypha is the 300+ books which were rejected when the Church declared the Cannon of Bible in the 4th century.( ie about 20+ additional Gospels, 50+ epistles and several apocalypses.)

Non- catholics using the term Apocrypha typically refer to OT Books included in all Bibles until the 14th century, but rejected by some but not all Jewish groups and the reformers. A Catholic would refer to these books as the deutero-cannonicals.

    God Bless

    I stand corrected. [IMG]

Nice to have you with us. Please feel free to contribute when you can. Most of the readers are silent in this forum (if they read it at all) but I believe a dozen of us made it all the way through last year. [IMG]

    Good evening once again -

The most obvious feature in our reading of Leviticus today is the 8 holy days spoken of in chapter 23. The Sabbath and Passover are quite familiar to most of us but I thought I might add some links that explain the other six:

Unleavened Bread: refer to Exodus 23:15

Feast of Weeks: refer to Exodus 23:16
