On January 1, 2004, the Baptist Board's "Read the Bible in a Year" forum will be entering its third cycle. By spending approximately 20 minutes a day, 25 days a month, the participants will completely read all 66 Books of the Bible in one year's time.

If you have never read the Bible all the way through, this is a good opportunity for you to do so. You will be amazed at how it tightens up your personal theology by keeping you immersed in God's Word. As I have said on numerous accassions in this forum, it is one of the most empowering things a Christian can do.

I hope to have an index compiled by the end of this year to add to this forum for easier navigation. Also, as time goes by, the commentaries will become more and more complete. All members of the board are encouraged to add to the commentary. The wider the perspective we have, the more rounded out the view becomes.

This forum is rather quiet and though discussion is encouraged, we move at a pace that disallows debate. It has been my experience that only a small percentage of people who show a willingness at the beginning of the program see it all the way through. However, if it is but just one person that makes it to Revelation 22:21, this forum is a success.

You can see the schedule in its entirety by clicking the link at the bottom of any page of the Baptist Board entitled "Bible Reading Plan."

So I encourage you to make the commitment now to read with us next year. The Scriptural Passages are linked in the first post every day or you can use your own Bible at home. The Gospelcom site has a wide variety of translations that are quite easy to access once on the site. Completing this odyssey will give you a great deal of satisfaction and will strengthen your resolve and faith, making you a better servant for the Lord.

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. - Revelation 1:3, KJV

I'm leaning towards doing it. I typically follow something else, though I've used this plan before also. I'll mull it over.

It is a great way to dig into all the different translations...I was following with the RSV...no chapter or verse divisions. Takes a little longer to find the passage at times, but easy reading.

    Thanks,

    Jim

I'm only been in the faith for two months now, so I've just been reading various books of the Bible here and there, as I'm waiting for January 1st, 2004. That's when I'm going to start the read it in a year plan- in the front of my Bible, there's a chart that has it all planned out, so I'll be going by that. I'm highly looking forward to it- should be a lot of fun, and I plan on doing it every year from now on if it works out like I know it will! [IMG]

I am looking forward to January 1 to begin. I've read through the Bible twice and for those who have read it once and feel like reading the Bible again you'll end up with the same message. I have great news!!!! When we ask our Father to read with us, the Bible is like a new book each time. You can't get bored with it. Take the time to ask God to talk with you as you go through each verse with him. It's like a treasure hunt! He will take you beyond what you read to teach you his wisdom and knowledge that he wants to share with you. It's truly a blessing!!! [IMG]

Clint, I'm signing up my entire congregation!

Several have asked me for another Bible reading challenge and schedule for 2004; I like the pattern for this one so I'm putting it out as a challenge for my congregation to follow through. I doubt that many will post here and most will want "paper copies" of the schedule, but I'll check in from time to time with a report or to relay a comment for discussion.

    Dan -

That's excellent! My mother's prayer group did the same thing this year. That kind of group accountability adds motivation and incentive.

I can't even begin to tell you how pleased I am. [IMG]

    May God bless you

I look forward to everyone's participation! [IMG]

For those that have looked in on the forum this month, my commentary has been scant and for that I apologize. I have had some personal matters that have required my attention and I have not been on line as much as I am normally. Lord willing, next year will see more text hitting the screen.

I will, however, be adding much more comprehensive notes to Galatians, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon, Proverbs, 1&2 Timothy, and Titus as I will have my Sunday school lectures available for pasting. This past year I was able to add James and Jonah 1-3 from that source. [IMG]

That makes 10 folks so far (I'm counting Tom as a definite and I know Margie will be participating) + Dan's congregation. [IMG]

Glad to have you all on board. [IMG]

    Clint,

Let me make a small challenge out of this. I've copied the plan for my small Evangelical Methodist congregation and have several now who have committed to it (I'm pushing for for at least 25 who will follow it through the entire year). I will also present it to a ladies' Bible study group I teach at a local retirement community; I think 10-15 of these ladies will see it through. These ladies are SBC, IFB, EMC, UMC, CC, and one "independent." Of course, that means I'll have to be a "conduit" for those who don't go on-line, but I'll gladly accept that "burden," besides, I'll have help.

Now, if this ol' Evangelical Methodist [IMG] can round up two groups for this excellent Bible reading plan [IMG] - which has been set up on this board with my favorite group of Baptists [IMG] [IMG] - how about you Baptists out there challenging your congregations, or Sunday School classes, or men's groups, or... well, you get the idea. I know several Baptist churches which would never willingly allow a Methodist church to "beat" them at anything. :D

Hope you had a great Christmas - God certainly blessed me, and one of those blessings has me excited about this Bible reading plan (could you tell?). May God bless your new year and all the lives which touch yours in the coming year.

One of my goals for 2004 is to have a vision, a mission statement if you will of good, solid Christian principles and habits. This would definitely fit into this category, but what is the workload like? 2 or 3 chapters a day? Does it start at Genesis and end at Revelation or mix it up a bit? Is a certain Bible version used? I really want to do it, but scared of failure. I, like many on here have a very busy lifestyle. I am active duty military, full time college student working on Masters degree, and very active in church where I am a trustee and a counselor on Friday nights for our Reformer's Unanimous addiction ministry. I know it sounds like an excuse, but I really want to do it and stick to it without failure. Maybe we can pair up with another individual sort of like an accountability partner to make sure we get through it? Sorry for all of the rambling.......

    Aloha!

Clint, count me in. I'm new to the board but I really need more spiritual disciplines in my life. God is faithful. I hope to be also.

Let's see... USAF, in Hawaii, Working on a Masters (Not a M.Div. is it?), active in a church, a counselor...
You need a daily break to go along with your PT schedule. I am retired Army - 4 different commands, S-3, XO, Corps G4 Opns Chief - I kept busy. My advise is make 30 minutes a day to read your Bible and your stress level will go down. Check out the 2003 plan and you'll see it's "infinitely doable." Nitimur in Alta!
