Thanks Clint. I was one who started off all excited and then lost enthusiasm for it. I believe it was somewhere around Numbers. Got behind, then more behind, then gave up.
I figured maybe it was the plan, so I tried another one and didn't do that either. I'm disappointed in me!

I'd love to join in again and give it another try the next time it starts. There were some excellent discussions in the beginning, and I always appreciated the "live commentaries" on each passage. Thanks for reminding everyone and encouraging us to do so.

I read, but seldom comment, as you know.

Reading the word is unique each time. After all my years, there is always something new. I find the same thing in writing devotionals. Sometimes get stuck on a little phrase, or even a word.

Clint, thank you for the Discipleship Journal website. I din't know where the Bible Reading Plan came from. I had assumed that you had created it. I may choose to do the reading from two instead of four tracks of Scripture. Right now it just seems too much for me to read. God's Word is tremendous. He is so wonderful. Thank you for your service. I`m one of those who e.mail Clint instead of posting here, mainly because this is only my 2nd time reading through, and haven`t got the confidence to post some of the "silly questions" that come to my mind. let me say , most emphatically, that Clint has never made my questions sound silly in his kind replies,I am very grateful for this topic and the commentaries and notes which are provided, and hope to go through the Bible in here as long as the topic is available to us.In fact, Ineed to print the next couple of weeks readings to do whilst we are away on holiday, so I don`t fall behind.I always stay at places where the Gideon Bible is in the room, but my own book is always in my suit case.

I just want to say a huge "thank you." I just joined this board yesterday. I am going through one of the worst times in my life. If you care to know more, I posted in the prayer requests section. God is using this time to draw me nearer to Him as I seek His will in handling the situation in which I find myself. Thank you for providing a place where I can be fed spiritually on a daily basis. I need to know that God has set forth a particular scripture for me on that particular day without my bias for seeking what I feel is pertinent. He will decide that and reveal Himself to me. Thank you for being his instrument!

 

I'm looking for a structured reading plan...does this forum provide an outline or something like that?....thanks..

 

Reading Through Your Bible is Sooo Important!

All reading abilities differ. All spiritual levels differ. We don't all have a ton of time to devote to our Bibles (and shame on us for that!)

NOT reading your Bible daily deprives you of spirtual food, which will result in spiritual weakness. Not reading your Bible methodically would be the equivalent of not eating all your food groups. You can live through it, but you won't be as healthy!

I just have few notes on the subject:

1) A little OT, a little NT. You can find this a plan for this almost anywhere and it makes a lot of sense. When you hit those spots in the Bible that seem a little dry, you can break it up a little.

2) A little OT, a little NT, a chapter of Proverbs each day. This is my wife's plan and she loves it. You think there's 31 Proverbs for a reason?

3) Devotional Bible: Probably the best devotional Bible I've ever seen was the Daily Walk Bible. It was broken up into 365 days, all the chapters you needed to read that day were printed out for you in order and it had comments on what you were about to read and then after discussed what you could learn from it and how you could apply it. I was so disheartened to find it is no longer available in the KJB.

4) Genesis to Revelation: This is how I started. I had tried other plans and failed so one Jan 1st I just picked it up and started reading it and haven't missed more than a handful of days in the years since.

5) Read and Listen: I know a couple people who were only able to read the Bible through in one year when they listened to the Bible on cassette (or CD) and followed along in their Bibles.

After you have read your Bible through a few times:

6) Chronological (by date written): Moses wrote the Pentateuch but Job lived and died long before Mosels. While it doesn't appear that Job wrote the book of Job, I believe most people agree that Job is the oldest book of the Bible. Somewhere I found a list that put all the books in order by date written...

7) Chronological (by occurrance): This is what I am doing this year and it's really cool! As mentioned in a different thread, Scofield's Bible has the known or estimated date range for each book. This method has helped me get a better grasp for the order of events.... Especially notable is the OT prophets mixed in with the six books of the kings.

Tip 1: Find what works for you! I had been encouraged to increase my Bible reading every year. I got up to 5 times in a year, but wasn't getting much from it... Now I set my goal lower and try to comprehend more.

Tip 2: If you don't make it through the Bible, PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF NEXT YEAR! Several people I know have read Genesis 5 or 6 times but have never made it to Revelation!

I think I`m on target, as I have just got up to the end of Jude ............ I will start Genesis next, although I have done up to Numbers earlier in the year, before I decided to change the order of reading, but want to do those again. Iwill wait for Revelation until December, when, The Lord willing, I shall read it with the group, as I still find it a difficult book.

I think this is read through no. 5 for me .....06/2007.... it gets better every year, now I know what`s coming next and look forward to parts that really encourage me. May I say , once again that I would never have had the `staying power` to do this even once if it had not been for the encouragement and help I have found here.

Bible Reading Plan

Clint: Just wanted to let you know as a newcomer to BB, that I've started reading some of the daily bible readings. I'm far from perfect in getting it down each day, but it's been helpful in reminding me to 'take my daily spiritual dose' and your comentaries have been most helpful putting the topic, chapter and verse into perspective. I certainly appreciate your perseverance and willingness to share with/teach others.

Just in case you might occasionally get discouraged or wonder, brother - keep up the good work!
