    The reason for it is this;

    Leviticus 23:5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord's passover. 6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. KJV

    Which seems contrary to these next verses in Luke.

    Luke 22:1Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. KJV

    Luke 22:Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. KJV

    So going back to read further in Leviticus 23:is this;

    Leviticus 23:8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. KJV

    Now we go to Exodus;

    Exodus 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: 6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord's passover. KJV

    Evening as in at sunset per Jewish tradition is the end of the 13th day & thus the start of the 14th day.

    Here we have evidence that unleavened bread is also eaten on that fourteenth day. Also again;

    Exodus 12:18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. KJV

    Okay.. from 14th to 21st is eight days. So Leviticus has it right in that the Passover is the 14th to be followed by 7 days of unleavened bread BUT unleavened bread is to be eaten with the Passover on the fourteenth day also, but not counted as part of the 7 days of unleavened bread that follows Passover probably because only the unleavened bread is to be eaten in those following seven days after Passover for why it is called the 7 days of unleavened bread..

    Okay. Thanks to the Lord for helping me understand this. I see no contrariness in scripture now for why Luke referred to the first day of the Passover as also the first day of the unleavened bread even though the following marked days of the unleavened bread are the 7 days when they can only eat unleavened bread.

    Just had to get in their mindset of how they were referring Passover & when the actual first day of eating unleavened bread started before the following 7 days after Passover when they can only eat unleavened bread..

    There are 8 days. The day of the Passover. The 7 days of the feast of the passover. And only 7 days of unleaven bread. Each day begins at its evening and ends at the evening beginning the next day.
    14 Passover
    15 16 17 18 19 20 21 the Feast week.
    14 15 16 17 18 19 20 days of unleaven bread.
    Per Exodus 12:18 and Deuteronomy 16:8.
    Ref Mark 14:12, Luke 22:1, John 18:28 & John 19:14 (1st feast day is called). Numbers 28:17-22.
