We still play most of those games weekly with our Kids Klub ministry!

I think this coming Sunday when we have a family get together (that i'm not really looking forward to) I'll try to get the whole group to play one of these classics.

 

Dodge Ball; now there was a game!! It's too bad so many schools don't allow it nowadays because they consider it to be too "violent." :-(

I haven't stopped playing some of the games since I work with children.

 

Red Rover and Hoppo Bumpo were fearsome games, particulary when played on frosted bitumen.

Girlgames included skipping with a big rope swung by a girl at either end and you ran through the rope. Elastic was a great game of nerves, see if you could avoid busting an ankle.

The good old days......

 

The church I grew up in had enough of a grassy lot to some of those various games; dodge ball, tag, etc. But it seems that before those in my age group outgrew all that, our favorite game became dodge frisbee. We usually played it-- like its forerunner, dodge ball, before it-- as individuals rather as teams. If you hit somebody with the frisbee they were out, unless they caught the frisbee. We really rapped each other with that disk sometimes.

No, really, we use to play 'annie over' and I may have mistook 'red rover' for that, although I do seem to vaguely remember something about 'red rover'.

Is that any relation to 'annie over'?

We threw a ball over the top of a house and tried to run around the house to tag the person with the ball, does that sound familiar to anyone?

Sometimes we raced with blue racers too In the summer time, we were outside until late; really enjoyed the outdoors.

I am not so far from these games, I am only 16 almost 17, but most of those games are still played although I have never heard of some of them, like 500... what is that one? I still play alot of them with my two nieces, Taylor and Jayden, they are both young children. My niece loves to play tag. And my favorite child game was not on the list Hide and Seek.

 

We use to play capture the flag at church camp.

I had two brother and we loved "Mother May I" and "Red Light, Green Light".

 

Remember it vividly!

One of my favorite pastimes was not a game, but aggravating bees.

I would take my Red Ryder BB gun and lay down in my front yard that was covered in clover, and shoot the stems of the clover when a bee would land on a flower.

The bee would usually fall in the grass with the clover on top of him and fuss like all get-out.

I could usually get at least 3 shots at any given bee before he decided to vacate the premises.

Then I'd pick a new bee----.

Never hurt 'em, but sure did aggravate 'em; (I didn't have a sister to pick on, so I used bees instead )

 

I taught them to the kids I used to watch. I also remember playing a game (although I forgot exsactly how it goes) it was called "Four Square" with a basket ball. And of course there was the old favorite basket ball game called HORSE.

 

I liked capture the flag a lot ... lived on 60 acres of woodland ... made it extreme ... wa ha ha ha! Lots of fun.

Dodgeball was probably my favourite.

Hated playing on an organized team of anything; cow pasture football & sand-lot baseball were tops though!

Never cared much for basketball except for horse.

My youngest aunt (just 5 years older than me) & her friends (mostly sisters of my buddies) and me & buddies loved to play "ZOMBIE".

They were zombies, and were after us younger folk. Never really had a point to the game except scaring us, but for kids, that is point enough.

They would walk real slow with their arms streched forward, saying "AHHHHHOOOOOOOO", over & over, but never catch us cause we could run but they couldnt.

Of course this was done from when you could still just barely see outside until can't see, so that added a bit of "horror" to the foolishness.
