Question: "What do the seven churches in Revelation stand for?"

    Answer:
The seven churches described in Revelation 2-3 are seven literal churches at the time that John the apostle was writing Revelation. Though they were literal churches in that time, there is also spiritual significance for churches and believers today. The first purpose is to write to the literal churches and meet their needs at that time. The second purpose is to reveal seven different types of individuals/churches throughout history and instruct them in God's truth.

A possible third purpose is using the seven churches to represent seven different periods in the history of the Church. The problem with this view is that each of the seven churches describes issues that could fit the Church in any time in its history. So although there may be some truth to the seven churches representing seven eras of the Church, too many people go into far too much speculation in order to determine which church fits which era. Instead, our focus should be on what message God is giving to us through the seven churches. The seven churches are

    (1) Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) - the church that had forsaken its first love (2:4).

    (2) Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11) - the church that would suffer persecution (2:10).

    (3) Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17) - the church that needed to repent (2:16).

    (4) Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) - the church that had a false prophetess (2:20).

    (5) Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6) - the church that had fallen asleep (3:2).

    (6) Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) - the church that had endured patiently (3:10).

    (7) Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22) - the church with the lukewarm faith (3:16).

The church in Laodicea, the churches of this age

1 Peter 4:17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God, and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

Revelation 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

1 Peter 5:13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

As we are entering a new era, the church structure is changing; this is called a time shift, as God points out in Revelation. Who will listen to the warnings?

    Rev 3:14-22 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

    Paul is addressing God’s Majesty

15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou were cold or hot.

God says I know you inside and out's and find little to my likings, you’re neither with Me all the time, and you’re neither against Me all the time, far better to be either with Me all the time or against Me all the time,”

Ezek 43:7-9 neither the people of Israel nor the pastors will ever again drag my holy name through the mud with their whoring and the on-god idols their Pastors set up at all the worship places. When they set up there worships places right alongside mine with only a thin wall between them. They drag my holy name through the mud with their obscene and vile worship. Is it any wonder that I destroy them in my anger?

So let them get rid of their whoring ways and the stinking no-god idols introduce by their pastors and I'll move in and live with them forever.

16 Since you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am going to spit you out of my mouth.

You’re neither with Me all the time, and you’re neither against Me all the time, far better to be either with Me all the time nor against Me all the time,”

Matt 7:22-23 (KJV) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Lev 18:23-25 (KJV) Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
And the land is defiled: therefore, I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

In Job 20:15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.

17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Neh. 9:29 And testified against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man does, he shall live in them; and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.

1 John 2:16-17 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

John 10: 11 - 16I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
But he that is a hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

13The hireling fleeth, because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
As the Father knoweth me, even so, know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.

What is a Hireling’ is a Person or Pastor, a hired shepherd, a mercenary, who tends the flock, the children of God for his own interest. When a hired shepherd sees the wolf coming he flees, not caring about the sheep.

18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

You brag, ‘I am rich, I’ve got it made, I need nothing from anyone,’ you are Lord's oblivious that in fact, you’re a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless.

Job 29:14-17 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
And I brake the jaws of the wicked and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

Isaiah 61:10-11 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

You learned deep in your heart that God disciplines you in the same ways a father disciplines his child.

2 Sam 7:14-15 (KJV)I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

(When the Holy Spirit, First begins the cleansing, I will sprinkle a little fire upon you.
This is a process when you are being chastised, which will lead you to confession, and then chasing to continue you’re cleansing.

    Read Job 5: 17

20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come into him and will sup with him, and he with me.

    1 Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.

    Heb 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Romans 12:11I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. But it is a choice. God loves you, I know.

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Rev 3:10-11 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Mark 14:37-38 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

For Evert truth Christ see everyone
Matthew 21:12-15 And Jesus went into the temple of God and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves.
And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.
And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,

This Is what I hear from people
Isaiah 30:9-10 9 (KJV) That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:
Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

Isaiah 30:11 (NKJV) Get out of the way, Turn aside from the path, Cause the Holy One of Israel To cease from before us."

    1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show unto his servants, even the things which must shortly come to pass: and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John;
3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein: for the time is at hand. Rev 1
