I'm just curious to see who uses what version of the Bible in your church; i.e. what version serves as your "pew" Bible (if you have one), or the version that the pastor preaches from, or that is the recognized standard one that most, if not all, people carry.

Moderators: Please don't let this thread become a KJV vs. MV debating ground.

My church doesn't have a pew Bible. I preach from different versions, and my congregation has a variety of Bible versions. Therefore, I chose "none" on question 1.

Attention: I find that there's a slight glitch in the questioning methodology of this poll.

It seems that regardless of your answer in Question #2, the poll requires an answer to Question #3. So I'd suggest just putting your personal choice into Question #3, whether it differs from your response in Question #1 or not.

The variant answers will then be discernable by the differences in replies between the questions.

Our church has NKJV pew Bibles. They had them before I arrived. I am fine with them. However if I were making the choice I would go with either the NASB or the NIV.

Why aren't the NRSV and the TNIV options? I would consider them if I was choosing a new pew bible.

They, and any other versions not listed, are options. For the sake of space, you would select "None of the above"- and then follow the accompanying instructions. I could have listed perhaps 50 versions, and still not have covered all possibilities- so I just listed a few select ones.

We have NIV pew bibles and our Power Point exclusion runs NIV. This was well and good until my home church started PDL series(s). Pastor sometimes was using other translations every verse(even wihin the same verse), power point couldn't follow. Some just took down verses references and looked them up at home in different translations.

O.K., I'm looking at the results so far, and I'm somewhat surprised:

Of 22 responses to the poll so far, more people say their church uses the NIV as their "standard" or "pew" Bible than the KJV.

2/3rds say they personally agree with the predominent Bible used at their church. 1/3 say their personal preference would be for some other version.

We use the UBS 4. :D

Actually the pew bible is ESV. I bring NASB and I don't know about what many other people bring.

We don't provide pew Bibles. You're expected to bring your OWN.

Most pew Bibles are used by visitors who may not have a Bible or come from a church where they do not typically bring a Bible. As a result, we do have pew Bibles, which are there for their convenience.

Also, our our pew Bible is NIV, which is very easy to read -- especially for those who are not familiar with the Bible -- no thee's and thou's - just plain English.

Lastly, visitors are encouraged to take the pew Bible with them after the service if they do not have their own Bible.

We use the NASB as a pew Bible and it's what the pastor uses when preaching.

However, people bring their own Bibles and use many versions besides the NASB: NIV, KJV, NKJV, Amplified, NLT and others.

I am now bringing the NET Bible with me for the notes, but sometimes I bring other versions. However, I am happy the pew Bible is the NASB.

We had pew bibles at the old building. When we moved, they got packed up and they're probably in storage, or in a closet around here somewhere with the song books they made me bring home.

KJV all the way. If you bring something else, you will be lost. Of course, half the time our pastor forgets to tell us what book he's in anyway, so you'd probably be lost in a KJV as well.

We preach from the NKJV, yet I would have the NKJV as well as the Living Bible as a second option for people to follow the sermon, as it is my opinion that the NKJV is best for study, and the Living Bible best for discussion.

The Pew Bible in my church is like the carpet.
The carpet is blue because the person who paid for
the carpet wanted blue carpet. The Pew Bibles are
NIV because the person who bought the Pew Bibles
wanted NIV (or did they just get a good price on
them [IMG] ) None of the 4 or 5 preachers since the
NIVs were installed uses the NIV to preach from.

The expectation is the same in my church.

We still do provide pew Bibles though- they're available for visitors to use. Like some other churches around here, we tell people that if they're visiting our church & if they don't own a Bible, to feel free to take one with them when they leave. We wind up having to replenish the Bibles in the pews every so often, but it's a great way to distribute God's Word.

We have both the NKJV and NIV for use in each pew.

We offer free NIV Bibles in our welcome center to visitors.

I use the NASB and like it but probably would NOT choose it as a pew Bible if personally give the choise to choose... I think I'd go with the NIV.
