Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan's Purse)

We have in the past. But this year I am putting somethnig together for a new family in town. They moved here from Michigan and there are 3 sisters, two married, total of 11 kids, they have pratically nothing.

 

Our's is. The WMU is sponsoring it.

 

We have a needy family right here.

 

Our church children are usually involved in these projects, but we also prepare Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for needy families in the area.

At the beginning of school, we donate school supplies to needy children. I agree with Donna, we have many needy families within just a few miles of our church.

We are all going to be so overwhelmed this season with all the people who need help.

 

We are. A lot of our church also goes to volunteer at the warehouse in Charlotte.

 

I have participated in Operation Christmas Child in the past. I won't be able to this year, due to other giving commitments that I've made.

 

I probably will. Some of the women from our younger ladies group has gone to the warehouse that Saggy mentioned.

Our association also does a Christmas store at Baptist Association Office in our county. So, they urge the churches in our county to donate stuff to sell to low-income families at a very small cost. When my dh was on medical leave few years ago he went to help at the office during the Christmas store when people would come to shop. He served as one of the counselors as well. He led 3 people to the Lord that week!

This is a wonderful outreach. It's neat to get your kids involved too.

 

We have folks in our community that we assist.

 

This year will be the fourth that my church has participated.

 

We will be participating again this Christmas, and our goal is a significant increase in shoe boxes compared to last year.

We also sponsor two local inner city children's ministries during the year, but especially at Christmastime, and will be providing presents for those children.

 

In 2003, our Children's Department collected 4 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. In 2004, they collected 8 shoeboxes. We set an initial goal this year to collect 12 shoeboxes. We received enough donations the first week to exceed that goal, so we prayed about it and set the goal at 50 shoeboxes.

Last week we had a packing party, and our final donations filled . . .

60 SHOEBOXES ! ! !

Praises be to God for this wonderful increase. We also help local families every year.

My wife is the staff supporter and counsellor for a High School Christian fellowship that just started this year (the school is brand new).

The kids wanted to make a few shoeboxes but then got really ambitious and decided to include the whole school. They put up posters and made announcements glorifying God and encouraging others to join in, regardless of their faith.

This is coming from a public school system that is very open to accepting those of all sorts of religious backgrounds except Christianity which often gets resistance because of its status as historical majority. Most schools in the Toronto area have all the major world religions represented.

The response was tremendous with contributions of finances and gifts from people of all different faiths. Praise God for this group of kids with the boldness to shine for Christ and lead by example of what being a blessing to all nations means.

 

This is great! Thanks for sharing with us. It seems that children work harder at projects for others than adults.
