With 31 votes we have 10 combat veterans and 21 non combat veterans. Of the 21 non combat veterans, 15 have voted where they were not supposed to. We have more non combat veterans voting than combat veterans. The results of this poll cannot be considered valid.

Don’t worry MaryKay, you were not alone. It was a bad way to set up a poll on my part.

MRCoon: thanks again for your service, I always look forward to your opinion.

As a combat veteran (Desert Storm) who supports President Bush I was surprised that many veterans would not support him but the poll has shown that there are some who don’t. (Jeff for sure) Of course the retired generals have been in the news lately but they did not surprise me at all. The generals I have known personally were all more politician than soldier anyway. I am sure there are exceptions, I am just speaking from personal experience.

    Aslanspal:

I agree with you, the poll results are invalid. As far as truth goes I am not trying to bend anything. The Galatian said that a “majority” of combat veterans don’t support President Bush. Even with 15 invalid votes I think this poll shows that is not true.

You are right, the military serves the constitution. The principal of civilian leadership over the military has always been the way the United States operates. There are always some in the military who don’t like that civilian leadership, whether it is Clinton as commander in chief or Rumsfeld as defense secretary, but our military will continue to serve those elected and appointed civilians.

Now as far as the poll being fascist, freedictionary.com defines the adjective fascist as:
    Fascism it defines as
The word came to be of course with the rise of Mussolini’s party in Italy before WWII. Are you saying that this describes my little poll? It sure doesn’t sound like me. I am a little more libertarian in my views and would love to dismantle most or our centralized authority in this nation. I am for less economic control and opposed to censorship. I guess the only part that really fits me is the belligerent nationalism. If that is all you meant than I can agree with you there. I do love the United States. I do think this is the greatest nation the earth has ever seen and I can get pretty belligerent about it. I love it, I fought for it, I have watched men die for it. If you don’t like it that’s fine, Delta is ready when you are my friend.

I have tried several times to articulate my disappointment with the current administration but loyalty to our great country won't allow me to be to disloyal. To Mr. Bush I would say I am a veteran of Vietnam who has been wounded twice and now retired from the USMC.

Is Mr. Bush a good military C&C no! Every Commander must evaluate the enemy fairly and in light of not only their current agenda but their historical or known agenda.

As an example, the Asian's in battle are known to be fearless and totally willing to use any form of warfare including torture to win the battle. Ruthlessness must be dealt with ruthlessness that is why Colonel Paul Tibet’s dropped Little Big Boy on Hiroshima it was not to see people die but because he had an understanding of the enemy.

Today we are in every sense of the word fighting a declared war that vastly underestimates the enemy. We can loose 2 million lives in the next 3 years and it will not make any difference in the political environment of Baghdad. Ruthlessness must be counterbalanced with ruthlessness we must attack these people in such a manner as to invoke fear when they hear our name. (The beginning of wisdom is fear) The bible says (paraphrase) should a man go to war with out considering the cost to finish it?

Mr. Bush has not been a good president militarily speaking and I wish that were not so. Please do not misunderstand me I am still ready to die for my country or my Lord at a moments notice but the freedom to disagree is one of the privileges we owe to our military.

President Bush has done well with the Supreme Court nominations and some other things but he has not done right by our military and their families. When Halliburton can get fined 2 billion dollars for stealing from our country and still retain her military contracts and we have soldiers dieing and their families receiving $12,000, a letter of apology and a flag that is wrong. We are no longer in Korea and this is not 1942 when a loaf of bread 5 cents.

Congress is supposed to up life insurance to 100,000 this year but to my knowledge that has not happened yet.

Sorry for venting, as C&C he fails for under estimating the enemy (see we were soldiers once and young) for domestic I would give Mr. Bush a "C" much better than our former first lady and her spouse during their tenure.

    1 Timothy 2:1-3 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

I have tried to counter balance what I see with what my heart and my former training lead me to believe.

    To MrCoon:

Dearest brother (Semper Fi) I also am delighted with Mr Bush's perceverance to finish the task at hand and he is certainly appreciated after the gutless stances of his predisessor. None the less we have a nation and a world in genral that is looking for a leader not a politician.

Your experience says you know what I am talking about, America needs to act and she needs desperately to make a statement by force and Mr Bush needs to be at the forefront of that decision. In three years we will be out Iraq and the lives that have and will be lost will be to no avail. We will be a failure in the eyes of the world and this administration will go down as an administartion that did not count the cost and did not finsih what they started.

How does that set with a Marine? Pretty sour huh? No one wants sacrafice to be in vain, our brothers blood cries from the ground begging to be avenged. (This is not religious persecution we don't turn the other cheek.)

If Mr Bush wants my okay he has to earn it by making tough decisions to do right regardless of the political right.

    $12,000?

Now I have been out of the military since 92 but when I was in sgli was $100,000 and every soldier I served with had it. As of Sep 1,2005 it was limited $400,000. The cost of $400,000 worth of coverage is $26 per month and it can be purchased at lower levels in incriments of $50k ($3.25 per month). Any military commander who allows his soldiers to go without this insurance is doing an injustice to his troops. Life insurance is available congress does not have to do anything.

Now if they want to up what they pay for that is fine, but there is no excuse for a military family to be left with $12,000.

Military Death Benefits: Status and Proposals
    Summary
Department of Defense (DoD) benefits for survivors of deceased members of
the armed forces vary significantly in purpose and structure. Benefits such as the
death gratuity provide immediate cash payments to assist these survivors in meeting
their financial needs during the period immediately following a member’s death.
Similarly, the Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) provides the life
insurance policy value in a lump sum payment following the service member’s death.
Other benefits such as the Veteran’s Administration Dependency and Indemnity
Compensation (DIC) and the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP), are designed to provide
long-term monthly income. Additional death benefits provided by the DOD for
survivors and dependents include housing assistance, health care, commissary and
exchange benefits, educational assistance, and burial, funeral, and related benefits.
Survivors may also receive death benefits from Social Security.
In response to P.L. 108-375, February 1, 2005, DOD presented proposed
changes during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing. DOD recommended
an increase in the death gratuity benefit from its current amount of $12,420 to
$100,000, limited to service members killed in an area or operation designated by the
Secretary of Defense. In addition, the DOD also recommended an increase in
Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) coverage from $250,000 to $400,000,
with the premiums for the additional $150,000 coverage paid for by the government
for troops serving in areas or operations designated by the Secretary of Defense.
Military personnel not serving in such designated areas could receive the additional
coverage, but at their own expense through higher monthly premiums."

    Thanks for the info thjplgvp.

I agree with a lot of your feelings about GWB. You know when I compare him to his father I realize that I forgive W a lot, I think because of the incompetence of his predecessor. If he had followed a strong president like his father did would I still support him as much? Probably not.
