    DSL is coming!!

Due to a sequnce of event that made DSL cheaper than AOL, I will soon be broadband!!
    Whoo-hoo! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] :D

I had to upgrade my old Operating System, which needed to be done anyway. I am now running Mac O/S 9.2. (My old G3 won't handle O/S X).

Not around my parts, it ain't. It still runs $50 a month. I could get ASDL (whatever) for about $30 or $35, but it only gives you 150 hours/month. Besides, I am cheap, and there are a lot of ISP's out there giving months for free...

I recently combined my DSL, my home phone service, and my cell phone service all with the same carrier (SBC). My total every month for all of these is about $70.00. A savings of about $30.00/month.

Gracious guys! I pay $14.95 a month for unlimited time through Bellsouth and if someone signs up and mentions my name, I get a $10.00 coupon toward my phone bill!

However, I started typing this yesterday and it just went through. wink, wink

Oops, slight correction. There is an ISP here in town that offers ISDN.

Does anyone know anything about ISDN? Is the speed comparable to DSL or cable? It is cheaper than DSL, but then it is from a smaller company that BellSouth. Any feedback would be appreciated.

ISDN is usually around 128Kbps, which is a lot slower than DSL, but also a lot faster than dial-up. If you don't do a lot of transferring of files then ISDN would probably be plenty fast enough.

    Jonathan,

Thanks. I will still have to wait a little while to afford either, but now at least I am informed.

    Zipidee-do-dah!! DSL is here!

    NIce and fast!

    I was paying for:
    1. AOL
    2. Pagoo internet answering service
    3. Call-busy call-forwarding, to send incoming phone calls to Pagoo if someone was using the internet.

I can now cancel the extra stuff (2 & 3 above), cancel AOL, and just pay for the SBC/Yahoo DSL connection. (And Robert, the eldest son, is paying for that! [IMG] )

I love DSL. Unfortunately, the currently company I'm with is expsensive. When my contract is over, I'm switching.

DSL is available here from SBC for 26 bucks a month, if you have your phone service through them anyway. I have a cable modem for 29 a month, and since my company pays for it, it was better for me to get cable, cause now my cable bill is cheaper. I am on my deck in the lovely 80 degree weather "working from home" (wireless network was also a must!)

Probably everyone's heard about it already, but you can get an AOL subscription for your broadband connection:

I've been thinking about this (I have RoadRunner now, and I was pondering getting AOL too). Has anyone else done this, and how do you like it?

I have DSL and highly enjoy it (with three computers networked and humming along on the same broadband) but advise against yoking yourself with AOL unless there is no other affordable option.

Just my opinion. If you can get Earthlink or SBC, for example, I would go that route.

I have DSL (second year) and it is with SBC. SBC does provide an attached account with SBC Yahoo but as a MAC user this is about as useful as an AOL account [IMG] - so my primary IP DSL is SBC but my ISP account is Mac.com at $99.00 per year. Avoid AOL and MSN like the plague they are the heaviest provider of XXX and are very anti Christian. The others have bad parts but AOL seems to trafic very hevy pro 'hinkie' porn and it is the same with MSN. Earthlink and SBC both seem better about this. Mac.com is clean but then MAC is to hard to hack because it does not service Windows or have a Window IP server.
