The purpose of Revelation was to reveal what was going to come to pass....

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John.... - Revelation 1:1

Which all of this was to heavy for just ordinary churches in Asia that did not amount to anything....

The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches. Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; - Revelation 1:20 - Revelation 2:1

Ephesus - Messianic - Beginning with the Apostle to the Circumcision, Peter
Smyrna - Martyr - Beginning with the Apostle to the Un-Circumcision, Paul
Pergamos - Orthodoxy formed in this time... Pergos is a tower... Needed in the dark ages
Thyatira - Catholicism formed in this time - The spirit of Jezebel is to control and to dominate.
Sardis - Protestantism formed in this time- A sardius is a gem - elegant yet hard and rigid
Philadelphia - Wesleyism formed in this time - To be sanctioned is to acquire it with love.
Laodicea - Charismatic movement formed in this time - Beginning with DL Moody, the first to make money off of ministry

    Candlesticks - Seven church congregations
Stars - Individuals within the congregations, all held in the right hand of Christ
Seals - The seven seals sealed each congregation within the lambs book of life

And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. - Revelation 5:4

If this interpretation is not correct why all the ado?

I believe the Philadelphian churches became in time....

    1. Methodist
    2. Pentecostal
    3. Charismatic

And according to the prophecy, "no more go out" are in and out of revival. The effectiveness of these churches is dependent upon the preacher. A good preacher will deal with what is obviously flesh.

What is the advantage of the Sardisean church? I would say, as a Sardis is a gem, they are much more refined.

And.... There is a third! I am a member of the Pentecostal Holiness church. My sister and her family are also members of their local Pentecostal Holiness church. My pastor has a Masters degree from Liberty University and I helped a niece through Liberty as well. The video below is one I took during a visit to the Thomas Road Baptist church. With the Baptist influence on the Pentecostal Holiness we have three extremes...

    1. Penta-Baptist
    2. Pentecostal Holiness
    3. Charismatic

But... My griefs are not within the Charismatic direction. No one has been more embarrassing in this area than the former Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr.

Of interest to me is a church I attended which embraces the 'Three Streams Movement'. Anyone familiar with this?

Here is a church that has an explanation of the theology involved.

What is 3 Streams Convergence? — Church of the Redeemer CEC

    WHO WE ARE

We desire for a manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit:
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 says there are gifts of wisdom, words of knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning spirits, tongues and interpretations and we want them all!

    We engage in enthusiastic worship:

We lift our hands, we dance, we kneel . . . sometimes we even lay face down on the ground. We shout, we cry, we share words in languages other than English.

    1 Corinthians 14:14-15
says it’s okay to sometimes pray and sing in tongues and also to pray and sing “with understanding” in our own language.

    We are hungry for God:
It is a priority in our lives to read, study and meditate on the Word of God, the Bible, which Psalm 119:162 calls a “great treasure.”

    We share our faith:
We have power by the Spirit of God to go to the ends of the earth and tell others about the joy available in Christ (Acts 1:8).

    We are driven by Love:
Romans 13:10 “Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
