Best technology rag?

    I am an avid reader. I am also a computer geek. While I buy and read various magazines on ocassion, I want to ask everyone a simple question:

    What is the best technology/computer magazine available on the market?

    I pick up Computer Shopper fairly frequently. I also read PC World and PC Magazine every once in a while. I have bought one or two PC Upgrade mags, and a couple of oddball titles that I do not remember.

    My major problem is that most/all of these are 50%-80% product reviews and ads. I want to find a magazine that has some technological meat in it...not just a snippet here and there.

    Suggestions?

    I really enjoy reading "NetGuide" which as the name suggests has a real focus on the internet as well as general computer information.

    Thanks, guys. But what I need is a white paper. Something I can take to work with me, or read in bed.

    Besides, I hate trying to read on the computer.

    I feel the same way. I'd much rather print out articles and read them on paper. I do that quite often.

    I read MacWorld but then that is because I use a Mac. I used to read Polular Mechanics but I don't think they have much computer related stuff. They devote more to cars in fact that computers.

    Anyone read CPU? I've caught an issue or two over the years, but don't know much about it.

    I just want a magazine that actually has something along the lines of useful knowledge. I don't particularly want to know how to record my old VHS tapes to DVD, and crap like that.

    Now, building a custom rig with decent cooling that runs almost completely silent is a different story. Or deep tweaks that can speed up Windows or other programs.

    I want information, but with enough explanation so I can incorporate it all into my own pool of knowledge.

    I have that particular issue of Computer Shopper.

    I guess I am a techno-freak. Computers amke sense to me.

    I am also an information sponge...I cannot get enough.

    Therefore, I have a hard time finding resources that can supply my "fix".

    In print format I'd agree with Ben "Netgude" is the most readable magazine for a non-geek i've seen, (Australian of course ;)

    Online probably the "Langalist" is the best .. has a free edition which is enough for most, and a subscriber edition for more depth. Langa.com

    I love "Smart Computing - In Plain English" at

    Smart Computing Website

    I have learned more from it than all other magazines combined. I've kept every issue for the last several years now. If you need to look up an article but can't remember which issue it was in you can go to the website and search for it there. If you have a monthly subscription (much cheaper than newsstand) you also have full access to several other of their magazines online and several very helpful sections. Q & A, Reviews, How-To's, etc.

    I do need to know how to transfer VHS tapes to DVD's. Where do I start? I have new computer with lots of great movie software (Studio 9). One friend says that's and a VCR player is all I need while another friend says I need more expensive hardware. Obviously, none of us really knows. Can someone offer info. Thanks.

    The article was in the August 2003 issue of Computer Shopper.

    I searched their website for the article, but I'm not sure that I found the exact one. Here is a link to the results:

    I think i have actually found what I was looking for...sorta.

    www.dailyrotation.com

    Daily headline feeds, adn you can choose to limit it to the sources you want. Since they have like around 200 or so, it is very overwhelming, and repetitive.
