Gmail is an invitation-only mail system started by Google. It's hi points are that it has 1 GIGAbyte of email storage FREE (more than many paid accounts), it uses the Google engine to search for email (so you don't have to have 21 folders), and automatically keeps messages and their replies together in 'conversations'. This last part is hard to explain, but basically, lets say you and I email back and forth on a subject some 8 times. All the emails would be one link from the inbox, then when you click on that 'conversation' you see all the messages (tabbed) at once.

While there appears to be no downside to this, there are conspiracy theories floating around that Google will use your archived emails for their own nefarious purposes.

Just do a search on 'gmail' and check out the descriptions. Some love it, some fear it like the next arm of 'big brother'.

I am not too keen on gmail because I don't seem to be able to delete my mail. The system just seems to stash it away. It may be that I haven't got the system sussed properly but I have opened an account with yahoo. I am happier with their system.

I love the filing system - as long as both emailers hit "reply" you have the entire conversation together in one chain.

My son (J.A.B.) and another member of the BB had a chain of 45 emails at one stage.

You can do that with O.E. took but you have to chose to reply with message. It bugs me! I really don't like getting messages with old messages attached. I've got mine set so that the reply doesn't resend the old messages.

This is much easier to read, and easier to find that "one" email you are looking for than the 'inline attachment' idea you are talking about dianetavegia.

Good idea on using the help screens C4K - I hadn't thought of that. It is a hard concept to explain as it is one of the truly unique features of Gmail.

To each their own - but I am THRILLED with gmail and can't wait till it is launched with all the functions working.

At the moment the only downside is that you cannot insert pictures into the body of an email - and if you forward an email with pictures they will not be included.
