Since Newt Gingrich introduced hate as the primary platform for the Republican Party, it has taken hold through endless right-wing media that vilified everyone to the left of Gingrich. It was the beginning of my long disenchantment with Republicans since, as a disciple of Jesus, I don't get to hate people. Hating others corrupts one's own character (Matthew 5:21-22). It is no accident that Jesus leads His contrast between being a religious person and being a true disciple by starting out showing the corruption of contempt for others.

The Republican Party (and many so-called Christians) have gone down this slide into corruption and depravity, and no longer know the difference between right and wrong. And we have whole churches led by ministers who preach this death in word and deed, destroying our witness to the world.
