Sure, you could make mockery of it, no one will stop you.

You dismiss it as mere traditions do you?

There it is written in the actual Word of God for all time and Eternity, given by inspiration of The Holy Spirit.

Scripture is my prescription and if it uses the lit candle as a sign of our inner faith in Christ, then I will use it as well. Else why was it given us in the Eternal Word.

Scripture is our prescription, let it come off the page and manifest itself in our lives.

But does Scripture require that we do so?

People are perfectly free to ignore the scripture, and refuse to live by its example.

Just as lighting a candle is a scriptural sign of our inward faith in Christ, refusing to light a candle is also a sign.
This dark world requires we do it as a sign and witness to those in darkness.

Many lampstands are already snuffed out across the earth, but I will continue to witness by this scriptural sign of my Faith in Christ. Outside the clinics, in street ministry and in prayer.

I let it shine before men and I’m not ashamed of it.

Don’t be ashamed our faith in Jesus or to be recognised by its signs before men. Be bold and step out in that faith we profess.

Take courage and don’t be afraid, the more we trust Jesus the more He will bless us and our work.

In fact one young woman outside the butcher clinic came over to us years ago because we had candles lit. She was looking for any sign not to go through with it. She said she knew we were Christians because of the candles and asked us for help.
It was only the two of us that night, me and old Nell down the street in the dark praying, the candles stood out.

Yeah you will cop abuse, but expect it wherever you express your faith in Christ.

No, Scripture does not require - neither does it prohibit
Thus if you want to do so - fine - if not - thats fine as well.

and there are Christian groups that do not use any pianos or other musical instrument.

    Nice statement!
BUT you did NOT answer the question

"But does Scripture require that we do so?"

A simple yes or no will be sufficient

It depends on who I am talking to.

To the lawyer of the word, I say No.

See the lawyers heart does not burn within him when he reads the Word, he only sees dry contracts and mere requirements. No more.

Those who read the Word by the Spirit, I say you will be compelled to, being saturated in the Word, it will manifest most definitely in their life, going well beyond mere requirement.

Each will receive exactly what he deserves from scripture according to his disposition.

You have posted more than yea or nay answers in your posts 37818, what should we make of those replies.

Our current Church doesn't sing it. Not enough guitars and drums in it for them.

We do sing it acapella in our CREC Psalm Sing group mixed in with hymns and psalms.

In brethren who want to sing the Doxology fine... In all my 35 years as a song leader I think maybe we sung it twice... We didn't need to sing it as the songs that we select always pertained to it... All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name just to mention one, and I can mention many songs that convey the same message that the Doxology claims... Those who want to sing it do but don't cast a eye of discontent on those who don't... There are plenty of songs in the hymnals to satisfy the masses... The Doxology is only one... Our church always sang acapella... Brother Glen:)

I remember business guys pressing their lawyers about how far they could go legally without going to jail.
They had broken every moral and ethical boundary to just meet the requirement of the law.
Sure they followed the law, but they were very far from the spirit of the law.

The mistake people make is treating scripture like a legal document and it is not, because things of The Spirit are discerned in the spirit.

We could search scripture to meet its bare requirements to the letter, but it is very far from the Spirit of the Word.

The very scripture gives the lit candle as the sign of our inward faith. But unless the lawyer sees it written “requiring “ him to light a candle. To light a candle would be a liability to be avoided above what’s barely required.
This is the lip service of the letter of the word, not the Spirit of the Word written on the heart.

So using the lit candle as a sign of our inward spiritual light should be a spiritual outgrowth of the scripture. Because it isn’t the legal outgrowth of scripture.
The lawyer legally discerns only the letter of the word, but the word must be spiritually discerned.

There should be no aversion to lighting candle as an outward sign of our inner light.

Hmm. In one sense, the Bible is a contract, a unilateral one in which God says “ this is how it is whether you like it or not”

Luke 11:35-36. "Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light as when the bright shining light of a lamp [Gk. luchnos] gives you light."
    1. Luchnos [Strongs 3088. See also vs. 33-34] does not mean a candle. It means a portable lamp usually set upon a lampstand (v.33).
    2. There is no Biblical command, direct or implied, to stand around in church holding a candle.
    3. Holding a candle will not illuminate the darkness of the soul. It was the error of the Pharisees to suppose that outward acts of supposed piety can bring about inward change (Isaiah 64:6; Matthew 23:23-28).
The last time I was in a Roman Catholic church was in Malta. For a small fee you could light a 'candle.' The 'candles' however were of the LED variety, presumably because of fire regulations.
