5. And he threw the pieces of silver into the Sanctuary and departed, and he went away and hanged himself.

6. And the chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, 'It is not lawful to put them into the Temple treasury, since it is the price of Blood.'

7. And they counseled together, and with the money bought the Potter's Field as a burial place for strangers.

8. For this reason that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.

9. Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled saying, 'And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the one whose price has been set by the sons of Israel,

10. and they gave them for the Potter's Field, as the Lord directed me.' (Jeremiah 32.9) (Zechariah 11.12-13).

~ 9-10. Jeremiah 32.9. This reference to Jeremiah does not fit by its meaning to the prophesy mentioned in these verses 9-10 concerning 30 pieces of silver and betrayal of Jesus Christ, and there is no other prophesy written by Jeremiah that would match these prophetic words in these verses.

But the prophesy of Zechariah (Zechariah 11.12-13) fits much better to this event. And it seems that perhaps mistake has been made by Matthew, mentioning a wrong prophet and subsequently a wrong event, presented by him as the prophesy about Jesus Christ and His betrayal by Judah.

Despite the fact that in both places, in the writing of Jeremiah and of Zechariah mentioned a certain transaction of buying a field, but only the writings of Zechariah fit to the prophetic words mentioned by Matthew in the verses 9 and 10. So again, Matthew probably may make a mistake mentioning event written in Jeremiah instead of Zechariah.

The amount of silver differs in these two accounts of Jeremiah and Zechariah.

In Jeremiah it was 17 pieces of silver, in Zechariah it was 30.

In Zechariah also mentioned the words of GOD indicating that they valued Him at 30 pieces of silver, after which the Lord commanded Zechariah to throw this money in the House of the Lord.

But in some Bibles, in the prophesy of Zechariah 11.13, there is not any mention of the potter or the potter's field at all. (NRSV and GNB Bibles).

But in KSB, Gideons, and in Russian Bibles, the Lord commanded Zechariah to throw these money in the Temple for the potter, and Zechariah did as it had commanded him.

So, according to all these facts and details concerning the amount of silver and placement of money, the account of Zechariah much closer to the prophecy mentioned by Matthew in verses 9-10 than the account of Jeremiah.

 

I have no doubts that entire Bible written under inspiration of GOD.

I also respect all your opinions and explanations and I think they fit to that prophecy mentioned by Matthew in their own way.

But Matthew makes emphasis on the betrayal of Christ by Judas and mentioned 30 pieces of silver for which Christ was betrayed and related it and pointed it to a prophecy of the Old Testament.

If Matthew, or translators, or someone else who was involved in the translation or writing of the Bible made no mistake, in this case it may be something missing in the Bible concerning quoted prophecy of Matthew.

Long before King James Bible was formed as a Bible, numerous other versions, translation, and edited editions of the Scripture were made by all sorts of different scholars and religious groups.

So, I may assume, that in the process of translation and writing something may be lost or missing or overlooked.

In any case, I will put this issue to rest because it is difficult and even impossible to match quoted prophecy of Matthew to anything else in the Bible, except the prophecy of Zechariah.
