I designed a website for our church.. It is their first. I was wanting to know what you thought.

    www.northmillcreek.bravehost.com

What are some ideas that would make it better?
please remember that it is in it's "baby" phase, and will probably be better when I learn more.

This is the first one I ever designed.
So please go easy on me, but I would appreciate any "constructive" help.

Decent work for a 'beginner'! The layout is relatively easy to traverse and the info is pretty relative. Good job! I would get away from Bravenet as soon as possible just to get the ads off of the pages...though I didn't see any bad ones you never know with Bravenet though.

Here are a few links that may be handy:

Lisa Explains It All (website help for beginners)

As I come across some more that may help I'll let you know ;)

Have you considered using a content management system?

It's a database driven system for managing the content of your site. It enables you to make easy sitewide changes to the design of your site, and add content without having to update html pages. There are a number of them available for different platforms. I have become partial to Joomla, which is a PHP/MySQL system.
    www.Joomla.org

I just ask because I notice you had a section for sermon notes. If you plan to add a lot of content to your site, I would definitely look into some type of CMS. It can seem like a lot of work to set up, but it's not so hard. And you'll spend less time on maintaining the site down the road. But you would probably have to move to a different host.

BTW, I was looking at your musings from the pastor there. You forgot an important reason for suffering.

2 Timothy 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

    Good point.

I'll look into Joomla. But for right now I'll probably stick with bravehost since I am new at this... they are pretty easy to navigate.

As for the sermon outlines, I am going to replace them as I go. So each month there will be a different one.

    Thanks for the advice.

Nice photos. I love West Virginia. My in-laws live there, and I look forward to my rare visits. Wonderful countryside, trees, mountains. Plus West Virginians are friendly people. Hey, I married one! [IMG]

With Mother's Day coming up, how many knew that it started in Grafton, WV? Anna Jarvis started Mother's Day to honor her own mother, and the Mother's Day Shrine Church is in Downtown Grafton. And as I recall, Ms. Jarvis had no children of her own, so the Mother of Mother's Day was not a Mother.

It is beautiful isn't it.. I'm afraid us WVians take it for granted sometimes.

I just added a few pictures of the youth, and our Mother's day dinner to the site, check them out.
