Has anyone else tried the AT&T Yahoo Mail Beta? I just switched over and so far find I like it much better than any other webmail I have used. It has more of the feel of outlook. You now have a preview pane and can drag and drop messages to other folders eliminating the need to load new pages evertime you want to look at or move a message.

How do you switch over? I've looked but haven't seen anything.

I signed up for the beta a few months ago, and today I got my invite. It took a while to get into it, maybe their servers are getting overworked today. Looks nice, but the interface seems a bit slow. I have over a thousand emails in my inbox and it makes it difficult to scroll through them since it shows them all in the list. Even my contact list is slow to scroll... I pretty much abandoned my yahoo account when I got my gmail, but I use it to sign up for stuff to keep the spam out of my other accounts. I'll have to keep playing with it. It will be interesting to see how it shapes up, but right now it seems to be more flash than substance.

    Is it similar to Gmail?

When I signed on the other day I got a message asking me if I wanted to switch over.

I have found it is faster than the old Yahoo mail, but I don't' have that many messages in my in box. I get maybe 12 on a heavy day that the filters don't catch.

I am not sure if it is similar to gmail since I have never used gmail.

Well, it's similar I suppose. It is certainly a response to gmail, I think yahoo may be overreaching a bit with this implementation though. I have found some features to be incomplete or unimplemented yet. How fun to click a button and get a message that says 'coming soon' ;)

To get in on the Yahoo beta...

Click the Options link on your Yahoo mail page (after you're logged in) > In the box on the left, choose Account Information (you will have to enter your password)> Click Edit at the Member Information area > change your Preferred Content (under General Preferences) by clicking the link > choose Yahoo United Kindom, Yahoo Ireland, or Yahoo Germany > Click Finished.

Once you go back to your mail, you'll be asked if you want to try the beta... just click Yes > you can change your Preferred Content back after you've chosen to try the beta.

I love the new Yahoo, I hope you will to.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

I love the setup- better than any other webmail I've ever used, but I think it's spam-catching still could use some improvement (compared to gmail).

I haven't been able to get it yet, but I'm anxious to try it! I've had a yahoo email account for several years and really like it.

Trotter, I tried your instructions...my Preferred Content is already set to Yahoo U.S. Do I need to change it to one of the others just to get the beta, and then change it back? I did put myself on the email "waiting list", but not sure how long I'll have to wait. :(

By far the best webmail I have tried is the new Windows Live Mail. It operates very smoothly, lots of function and is actually better than Outlook Express.

If you want it add free just go for the Plus version for $20 a year. I have tried Gmail and so far have not been impressed. I know everyones shouting about the gigs of storage, but come on, who actually uses that much space?

Yeah. Change your preferred content, accept the beta, than change back.

If anyone does want to try out GMail, send me a pm with your e-mail address, and I'll send you an invitation. I haven't tried the new Yahoo account. I have too many e-mail accounts now. GMail is a great solution for storing documents and photos. I use it to have my server e-mail me my mysql database backups.

One of the guys here was kind enough to send me a Gmail invite. I used it for about 2 weeks and found it to be too cumbersome and too cluttered. That's strictly my opinion as I know there are many on here who use it and love it.

I've been totally happy with Yahoo email. I've looked at the new beta and it looks just like my Outlook email. My ONLY hesitation in switching over is that I have a precious 86 year old aunt who uses Yahoo email and occasionally I have to "remind" her how to do something! It's very easy to walk her through step-by-step instructions if I'm using the exact same program. But I guess I could set up another yahoo email ID and just use that if I need to help her.

You can switch between the two.

At the top of the beta screen, right next to "Sign Out" and "My Account" is a link, "SwitcgBack." If you do switch back, you'll have a link on the upper right to try the beta again.

Thanks, Trotter...I did get the beta and I saw where I can switch back and forth. That's great! I do like the beta, but it seems incredibly slow? I'm sure it will get better, but right now it's almost too slow to use. I'll keep trying, though, as I love the way it works!
