    Re: Mark 2:26. TR

αρχιερεως of high priest occurs 14 times in the TR. Only once in the TR without article. Acts 19:14.

αβιαθαρ του αρχιερεως can be understood to mean "Abiathar [son] of the high priest." Which in fact that he was at that that time.

    @John of Japan,
Regarding Acts of the Apostles 7:16 I was thinking παρα could be rendered as "besides" in the text. You pointed out it should not.
    My view,
". . . So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers, And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money besides of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. . . ."

My thinking being had Stephen omitted παρα he would have had to have said, ". . . And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. . . ." Just as it now is in the KJV.

Also those hearing Stephen could have understood it was Jacob who bought of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.

I'm sorry, I'm not quite following your argument, so please explain a little more. (I don't remember interacting with you on this before.) What would be the nuance and advantage of rendering it "besides"?

The KJV Acts of the Apostles 7:16,
". . . And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. . . ."

The Greek text here, with or without παρα can be translated the same way in English if just using of. Genitive Case.

    Most. translates παρα as from.
I proposed besides. Without παρα in the text it is still Genitive Case of. παρα is of course to be in the same case. And παρα is not needed to mean in English ". . . And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. . . ." I was thinking παρα makes it possible to be understood as ". . . And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money besides of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. . . ."

I am assuming the one's to whom Stephen spoke understood Jacob bought from the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem, not Abraham.

I see your point. Personally, though, I have no problem with Stephen being mistaken. What is preserved is the message of Stephen, though there is no guarantee of inerrancy for anything of a conversation or sermon recorded in Scripture other than the words of Christ. In other words, we have a verbally inspired record in the original Greek of Stephen's words, but he could have been mistaken, and that still does not affect the doctrines of inspiration and inerrancy.

    Thank you. I understood that.
Dr Pickering thinks Stephen had extra Biblical evidence, we at this time no longer have, for Stephen's statement. Acts 7:16 second passage dealt with in video.

I am supposing Jacob's purchase was ment and understood.
