Jesus Christ said “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” - Matthew 10:6

How else are the saved of Jesus Christ instructed to be harmless but at the same time to tell others important truth from God?

please answer with scripture if you can.

The only way for a person to avoid the damnation of hell is of course to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Because unless a person gets saved before they die, they will spend eternity in torment. I love all other people and I would never want anyone nor anyone that they know and love to not get saved. And so I preach the gospel of Christ.

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: - 1 Cor 15:1-4

Please look carefully at the phrase from above "sins according to the scriptures". So unless a person knows and acknowledges sins according to the scripture, that is, according to God who alone makes the decision, they will not got get saved. In a way those who think that they are loving are unfortunately not helping people who are not saved.

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:- Ephesians 4:5

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
    5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
    6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; - Phil 1:28-29

18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. - Romans 12:18-21

That looks like a prime example of how not to exegete scripture. Isolating “sins according to the scriptures” is hardly proper analysis of the text; more like one of those "conned by" jobs.

So if a person goes about killing people, maybe a serial killer or a hit man, they do not have to acknowledge that murder is a sin according to what you just said.
The same for someone who worships a statue of Zeus, or a serial adulterer, or someone who fornicates all the time, or someone that goes around robbing banks.
No. The gospel of Christ clearly says “sins according to the scripture”
After all that is what Christ suffered for.

Now does a person need to recount all of his past sins? Well no that would be to hard.

Poor exegesis gets called out and the response is an equally poor conclusion of the meaning and intention of that calling out.

What's next, "top (k)not come down!"? Or will the next doctrine center on that big Honda the early church had, when "they were all in one Accord"? :Wink

There is no warrant and no need to make the passage into something so gnostic. Jesus died according to the scriptures. He didn't just die, he died for our sins, just as the scriptures said he would. For example, read Isaiah 52 through Isaiah 53.

Believing what it actually says is not gnostic. Turning it into what it does not say is gnostic.
Your theory would have it say "how Christ died for our sins not according to the scripture"

So if a person goes about killing people, maybe a serial killer or a hit man, they do not have to acknowledge that murder is a sin according to what you just said.

Absolute nonsense. The exegesis presented in my post does no such thing.

The problem is that your posts represent a way of interpretation of both my posts and scripture that twists the words to mean something that they don’t. But this seems to be an all too common problem.

Christ died for something. According to the scriptures, it is our sins. And there is no definition of sin except "sins according to the scripture". Sins according to another source, would be hidden wisdom, which is exactly gnostic.

I should probably be afraid to ask, but there must be a twin doctrine to go along with that one.

What is your doctrine on Paul’s “day according to the scriptures”?

It would be “third day according to the scriptures”

    It is.
Even if you remove “third” from “third day according to the scriptures” it could not be “month according to the scriptures” as that we be “third month according to the scriptures”
Unfortunately that kind of change would be gnostic

The challenge was to present the twin doctrine, and thus far it has been unmet in a most fallacious manner. But then, that first parsing of scripture was not exegesis but torture of scripture.

It is not a little ironic that a thread supposedly devoted to being “wise as serpents and harmless as doves” starts out with a cultic method of wrongly dividing scripture. But it does provide a good opportunity for correction.

For those who may be too new to scripture to understand the issue, the phrase “according to the scriptures” very simply means “as was foretold by the scriptures.” This is of course a reference to the Old Testament of the Bible.

Fulfilled prophecy is a fundamental aspect of the Bible, unique among holy books. The most fundamental of its prophecies regard the Messiah, Jesus Christ, especially his dying for our sins and his being raised from the dead on the third day.

Noting from the righty divided scripture I see.
But how do you righty divide the word of truth?

In this case, my post clearly demonstrated how to rightly divide scripture, aka God’s word, aka the word of God, aka the word of truth, aka the Bible, aka the scriptures, aka the holy scriptures, etc.

However, “righty divide” sounds like yet more cultic methodology in play, especially the way that post is worded.

Perhaps another little demonstration of improper exegesis would help illuminate the issue, this time of the sentence above.

What does “sin according to what you just said” have do with the intent of the sentence above? Why would anyone divide the sentence up that way?

Why would anyone have to acknowledge that murder is a “sin according to what you just said”? Is “sin according to what you just said” supposed to be an equivalent to “sins according to the scriptures”? Is the point that it works as a good substitute, or that they need to acknowledge it in addition to "sins according to the scriptures"?

Paul wrote to Timothy, an evangelist:

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. - 2 Tim 2:15

obviously you do not know how to do that.

And of course Paul also wrote in declaring the gospel of Christ

… how Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures

Yes, Paul, an apostle, wrote that to Timothy, an evangelist, and all who would interpret scripture should take note. Your own posts here do not measure up; not even close. That is the issue here.

Now, address the following posts. How does the method used in your posts resolve the issue raised? The only viable resolution is an admission that your posts on this matter are in error on this point.

“Third day according to the scriptures” is of course part of the gospel of Christ.
Now you want to remove “third” which leaves
    “Day according to the scriptures”
Which is correct as “month according to the scriptures” would lead to
“Third month according to the scriptures”
See I answered and am perfectly correct

now “sins according to the scriptures” is exactly what Christ dies for as opposed to
“Sins according to some other source”
    Again I am perfectly correct.
