The point was to @Scarlett O., not to you.

Relax Ky. It's probably just been a while since you've eaten a carburetor for breakfast.

When I was a young man in high school there was a class called Home Ec. It was for females. It taught them how to cook and sew and manage the home. It was Bible based. But they don't have such classes now. Has anyone noticed how much better we are as a society now since we became enlightened and did away with stuff that no longer pleases God according to the NIV and other translations attempts to write functional equality (I made that term up just now and I like it) into the wonderful word of God?

Let's get some Bible on this. This is in the pastoral epistles and is instructions from God what pastors are supposed to preach to their changes.

Titus 2:1 ¶ But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

What is sound doctrine Bro Paul?

2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
    3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, (love their children, huh? There was no abortion taught in home ec).
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

You've come a long way, baby!

I have read the whole Bible. If there is a rebuke for a man, God will send a man to deliver it. It is his way.

If there are any aged ladies reading Titus 2, how long has it been since you taught these things in verses 4 and 5 to a 20 year old girl just starting a family? It would be a shame if you have never done it, no?

Well if you ever say that to a woman, and she surprises you by not getting angry, but says "lie down and rest honey, and I'll just go take this tent peg and stake down the tent"; you get out of there fast. She may have read the whole Bible too.

I knew Dave that I can depend on you to find a precedent in the scripture that nullifies everything else in the scriptures that God says about the roles of men and women. Some joker from the 16th century probably taught you your doctrine but it was not Paul writing to the NT churches that were bought by the blood of Jesus Christ. The woman took the tent peg from her own tent. There is a good likelihood that she had attended the Home Ec class on how to manage your home at McKinney High.

I doubt that you even think it is possible to blaspheme the word of God by your lifestyle of rebellion even after it is clearly stated in my Bible.

So, as long as Scarlett O. moderates ("keeps") baptistboard.com at home, inside some sort of domicile, all is peachy. See, there's the solution.
Calvinists love legalism, but legalism also happens to be a two-edged sword...

Have you ever considered moving perhaps to Afghanistan, or maybe Iran?

You sound like you would fit in quite well in one of those countries, culturally.

Hi Piers, thanks for the response but don't you think your comments are somewhat juvenile? You can assign any passage you want to the category of legalism but one thing is sure, if there is a judgement for you it will be from the context of the word of God and what he means by what he says and not from your subjective views that makes one wonder why he even wrote them. God is the Judge of all the earth, he says. That sounds legalistic to me.

I quote Titus chapter 2 and you liberals go crazy. I did not write the chapter. What is wrong with you? Does your translation say something different?

Right. If you don't keep these women down next thing you know they'll be selling real estate like in Proverbs 31 or starting a business selling colored garments. What's next? One of them's liable to end up judging Israel! And it all started with a female moderator and and NIV bible.

Disagreeing with you does not make one a "liberal".

    "Keepers at home"

Brother, I won't argue with you over this. I'll just add something for you to consider.

I never married. Almost did. But life took a different turn. I was a very good school teacher for decades and miss it very much. I couldn't stay at home as I needed to work to pay bills. I am 63 and my parents are now deceased and my disabled brother [mentally retarded and autistic] now lives with me. My role is to protect him and to give him his best life possible. If a man came into my life now - which odds are is not going to happen - he would have to understand that he gets two people, not one.

    So that's my life.

"Keepers" - that's an English word. But the Bible wasn't written in English. It was written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek.

I am a word nut! I love word studies - especially Bible word studies.

The Greek word "keepers" is in the New Testament 4 times. Three times it's found in the book of Acts and it's the Greek word φύλαξ which means a guard or one who keeps by guarding and in the context of those 3 times it's referring to a prison guard.

The Greek word "keepers" found in Titus for women is a similar word - not quite the same, but similar. It's οἰκουργός and it's a compound word - like football or firefighter. The first half of the word means an inhabited place and the second half of the word means to guard or to be aware.

So a wife should be a guardian of her home and to be aware in that role of guardian. It's the ONLY time this word is used in the Bible and it's not talking about a prison guard. It's speaking of something more spiritual.

"Keepers at home" does not mean that girls must take Home Ec classes to learn to be domestics and domestics only.

My father was a blessed leader of our home. And he loved my mother like I've never seen a man love a wife. He encouraged her and supported her. My mother was a blessed "keeper" of our home. She had a job outside the home and she was the "watcher" of all things going on in our home. She knew right away when I was getting too boy-crazy. Now, she turned that over to my father, but she was the guardian and spotted it first. That's NOT to say a father should not guard in those same terms and cannot spot a problem first. But this is what the Bible says about a wife and mother.

Just ponder on that if you choose. If not, that's OK.

I should add that I don't think that a woman should preach or teach in a worship assembly or an adult Bible study.

That Scarlett feels the need to defend herself for performing a civic role (moderating here on a forum, not pastoring or preaching - much) given to her, means that some of us men must be failing.

Do you have any lines you will not cross? How about voting for a woman president.(a president is not a preacher or pastor) I don't know if you are one or not but men, especially ones who are in the charge of the spiritual welfare of others, who puts their own philosophy over the plain teaching of the scriptures, are failing.

BTW, Titus 2 did not say anything about a woman working outside the home, and neither did I. If there were no difference in God's desire for the aged men and the aged women, one sentence would have been enough for both.

I started this thread. Let me gently close it.

Beliefs about women are not always easily pondered or altered. Let's get to exalting the Lord.
