I know that some believers misapply Ephesians 5:18 as if exhorting believes to avoid getting drunk but instead seek a filling of the Holy Spirit but that is actually an apostate calling that ignores the warning in 2 Corinthians 11:2-4 when Ephesians 5:18 is just exhorting believers to say sober, as be filled with the Holy Ghost or remained filled with the Holy Spirit rather than getting drunk with wine.

    Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

2 Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

This scripture testifies we are not leaky vessels that needs a continual filling of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

This scripture testifies that after coming to & believing in Jesus Christ, we would never hunger nor thirst to be filled again.

John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Ask Jesus to confirm the word to you since Ephesians 5:18 cannot be applied as an exhortation to saved believers to seek a continual filling of the Holy Spirit but to be sober and thus remaining filled with the Spirit.

This scripture testifies that once we had received the holy spirit, we would not be asking the Father for the Holy spirit again unless we make the Father look evil as if He did not give us the Holy Spirit the first time for knocking at the door of Jesus Christ.

Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

This scripture testifies that we are complete in Christ and that all is required of us is to be rooted in Him & His words.

Colossians 2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

How filled are we with the Spirit of God?

Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

If we sow to the flesh, do we lose any portion of the Holy Spirit as if He will leave us?

Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Since the Holy Spirit is stuck with us, is there a danger to defiling the Temple of God which is our physical body?

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

As verse 15 testifies, the believer is still saved even though he will die a physical death in verses 16-17 for defiling the temple of God when Jesus comes as the Bridegroom to judge His House in that day in verse 13.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

That means being left behind from the pre great tribulation rapture event, even though they are still saved.

Revelation 2:18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; 19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. 20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. 23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. 24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. 25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.

So how do we avoid defiling the Temple of God? Not going after the rudiments in the world for how they seek receiving spirits continually as if by seeking a continual filling of the Holy Spirit, but by looking to the author & finisher of our faith to help us lay aside every weight ( provision for the flesh ) and sin daily in walking in the light in fellowship with the Father & the Son.

Hebrews 12:1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

What happens when we do not look to Jesus Christ to help us to resists sin daily in thought, word, or deed?

3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

BUT when does this chastening occur? When do we get that scourging ( stripes ) from the Father in verse 6 so that we may be partakers of His holiness?

Luke 12:39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

41 Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?

42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
    44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

The scourging from the Father takes place on saved believers that were not ready and therefore left behind before that fire comes on the third of the earth per Revelation 8:7.

Note Luke 12:39 about the warning for not watching and suffering a thief to break through as that applies to taking your eyes off of the Son in worship to the Holy Spirit or to the trinity as well as taking your eyes off of the son to the Spirit for seeking a continual filling of the Holy Spirit in suffering that thief to break through.

The passage in Ephesians concerns how Christians should behave (walk).

4:15 Look carefully then how you walk...
4:21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
4:25 ...we are members on of another.
4:29 ...give grace to those who hear.
4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.

5:1 ...walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us,

5:3-7 (a list of that which is in opposition to the walk of a Christian)

5:8 ...Walk as children of light...
5:15 Look carefully then how you walk,...
5:16-18 (a list of that which is in opposition to the walk of a Christian)
5:22 Wives, [submit] to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
5:24 ...as the church submits to Christ
5:25 Husbands, love [agapate] your wives, as Christ loved [egapesen] the church...
5:28 ...in the same way, husbands should love their wives...He who loves his wife loves himself.
5:31,32 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
5:33 ...let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

    6:1 Children obey
6:5 Servants obey, ...with a sincere heart
6:9 Masters, do the same to them...

Thank you for sharing the word and confirming the word that Ephesians 5:18 is in regards to our walk with Christ which is to be sober and not be drunk with wine.
