Best: Trump
Worst: Biden/Obama

Rush Limbaugh once remarked that Carter had to really appreciate Obama because Carter was our worst president until Obama came along.

Best: GeorgeWashington because of his obvious contributions to the fledgling country

worst: right now Lincoln for his going to war with his own country

The determination of best / worst depends on what measurement standard is being used. For example, if you used the number of Americans killed throughout American history, Lincoln would look bad (600,00) dead retaining the union.

In my lifetime (Truman to now) Lincoln starts to look better because the appointment to the Supreme Court of those that would support abortion places some blame on various presidents. The current tally is millions of Americans killed.

If we consider that the primary mechanism of oral contraceptives is mucosal prevention of embryonic implantation (a de-facto abortion) we might be close to a billion Americans dead. However, few understand this is happening and might not be accountable for allowing this tragedy.

It is difficult enough to measure responsibility for US dead. Congress is not blameless either. When one tries to add economic and foreign policies things get even more complex. If one were to measure good intentions one might see Cater as best and Obama as worst.

I view it as a question of competence vs intentions as well as political savvy…. And luck plays some part in the performance package. Clinton had political savvy as did JFK while I view Biden as a feckless bumbling & crooked character who aged out of the job rather quickly.

Then Tim, we would have to factor in what I would consider our biggest general weakness to the US political system, i.e., Congressional corruption & incompetence that either provides and/or deny the executive branch the ability to lead. One can look at this as a check to Presidents abilities however the corruption component renders the whole government flawed at best and frankly useless.

My lifetime spans from FDR to Trump. My favorite Presidents are JFK, Reagan, Trump.

My least liked Presidents, during my lifetime are Johnson, Carter, Clinton, Obama and Biden.

May favorites of all time, Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Lincoln, FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, Reagan, and Trump.

Two others, non-Presidents, that deserve historical honor, are Hamilton, and Franklin.

Had Julius Caesar not proclaimed himself ‘Dictator for Life’ and just served a regular term, like Cincinnati’s did then go to his home and farm, he would have been fully accepted. What Caesar did for the people (feeding them with grain rations, providing housing, a coliseum for games &athletic events, military and police protection etc was unprecedented. Personally I’d prefer a benevolent dictator to a 4 year president.

BTW, Cato the Elder kept the people in-line by imposing a luxury tax on everything except the essentials and in doing so kept a balanced budget.

In my adult lifetime (when I paid attention), I'd say Biden was the worst in terms of a President and Obama in terms of policy (maybe Clinton as I was in the military then and had to suffer his dismantling of the armes forces). Best? Not sure. I like 2nd term Trump.

At the end of history and looking back over our shoulder, we might see throughout all of history every possible configuration of human government and see that they were all failures. Like Pogo said, "We have net the enemy and he is us."
