Do you see the Chosen as being Good or bad?

Many Christians and churches seem to be taken up with the TV show the Chosen, even my Pastor and mid week groups did a study of the Chosen show with discussions, but I see it as being Mormon propaganda.

Here are the Mormon Distinctives:

Christianity

There is one, all-powerful, triune God who created the universe from nothing.

Mormonism

God was once a man who worked his way to godhood. Heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Ghost are three separate gods who make up one godhead.

Christianity

Jesus is our perfect substitute. Eternal life in heaven is ours because of his perfect life and sacrificial death.

Mormonism

Jesus is our example. Mormons must still prove to be worthy through good works.

Christianity

The Holy Spirit lives in every believer, teaching, guiding, strengthening, and comforting us.

Mormonism

The Holy Spirit provides help to worthy Mormons.

Christianity

Life begins at conception. All people are born sinful.

Mormonism

Life begins in the pre-existence. All people are born without sin.

Christianity

The fall was the worst and most catastrophic event in the history of the world.

Mormonism

The fall was a good thing. It resulted in great blessings for man.

Christianity

All believers are God’s Holy Temple as the Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts all believers.

Mormonism

God’s Holy Temples are buildings where worthy Mormons perform ordinances required for their eternal life.

Christianity

Only believers have been given the right to become children of God.

Mormonism

All people are the literal spirit children of God.

Christianity

God has given us salvation as a free gift.

Mormonism

God has given a plan of salvation. We must work the plan.

The show is so slow moving that my interest lags (... I hear there's a surprise ending.)

In general the show is nice but not great.
I've watched a little bit with my wife.

The foundations of our modern worldview was developed over the past couple hundred years.
The people in ancient times had a far different perspective than we do.
Such common sense scientific notions that we teach our kids about from an early age, such as the circulatory system, pharmacology, and astronomy; these were unexplored sciences and relegated to the spiritual realm in those times.

The writers of the show frequently have the characters propound a modern scientific reason for events that the participants would have attributed to spiritual forces, such as infection, heart-health issues, medicine/pharmacology, etc.

During the show I blurt out, "They wouldn't have known that!" - - My wife complains when I scoff at these insertions. lol!

Could you give a specific example?
I am trying to recall anything like that in S1E1 (which you would have seen if you only saw a little) and it was all about SPIRITUAL oppression/possession and battling it.

I can only think of the episode with the lame man at the pool where Matthew speculated about a link between volcanism and hot springs releasing gasses (Somewhere in S2).

Why do you see it as Mormon Propaganda? What specific mormon teaching/insinuation is being taught in the Chosen?

Most criticisms i've seen have been pretty poor, in my view. Reduced to "mormons are involved/funding therefore it must be teaching mormonism" Just because mormons are involved does not meean that it is mormon propaganda.

But i'm willing to change my mind if actual evidence and arguments are put forward.

Do they quote the KJV? All Mormons I know are KJV (and I pastored 33 years in strongly Mormon country in the West).

Like any drama, they add dialog and thoughts as character development that are NOT verbatim in God's Word. Expected, since not all four Gospels combined are a full biography.

Not watching now. I have watched the past seasons and enjoy "visualizing" many of the Gospel events. Appreciate seeking historical accuracies in food, clothing, etc.

But then, I enjoy VeggieTales with the grandkids, too.

I'm not much of a TV watcher. I don't know what episode it was, I've only seen a few non-consecutive early episodes.

'The Chosen' is a nice story. The story can carry a gospel message. It can encourage people to read the biblical story.
But it adds dialogue, events, purposes, characterizations, etc. to the story
Dramatizations also remove parts of a story in order to keep a storyline concise and more easily understood.
It has to be done; a visual portrayal of a historical scene is a different method of communication.
If you want the complete "inspired" story you must go to the source.

I live a stones throw from Lancaster County, home of Sight and Sound's, Millennium Theater, where they portray biblical themed stories on stage.
I have the same problem with these theatrical portrayals of the Biblical stories too.

P.s. I like Veggie Tales better.

I like The Chosen, even though I find myself quite often shouting out at the tv, that is clearly not what the Scripture said.

I think it's good! It turns attention to Christ, even though they have added many things that are not represented in the Scripture.

But I can understand why they did that in order to fill in the lines to make a continuing story.

I've watched the Chosen, it was okay not sure about the hype but it was well acted and enjoyable watch. As a series they needed to fleshout the charaters and the storyline, and that where some have issues "putting words in the mouth of Jesus". I've heard due to watching the Chosesn, people have started reading the bible/going to church. Overall sofar I think the Chosen is good, and probably watch season 5.

"putting words in the mouth of Jesus". Count me among the "some" that have a issue with it. I consider it blasphemy.

Blasphemy : something that you say or do that shows you do not respect God or a religion:

Much of the dialog is conjured-up from the writers imagination.

(Gen 6:5 KJV) And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually.

I fail to understand how professing spirit-filled children of God can view and or endorse this series.

Who is accounting for where this money is going?

Who accounted for where all the money from “Ben Hur” and “The Greatest Story Ever Told” went?
It is a production company making a Series and releasing it like a movie (in theaters).
Did the production company of these commercial movies claim to make an effort to be an evangelistic outreach related to the life of Christ? Regardless, as with other worldly organizations, as you implied, why should a "christian" organization be any different.
