No Rule of LawWorst = George W. Bush ... birth of the Imperial Presidency and the NSA-type government superpowers (wiretaps without court orders, 'Gitmo' prisoners without charges, legislation by Executive Order).
Neither in my lifetime however but needed to be said.Best: GeorgeWashington because of his obvious contributions to the fledgling country
worst: right now Lincoln for his going to war with his own country
I liked Jimmy Carter. He was the first president that I voted for when I turned 18. (He lost to Ronald Regan in that election.)If one were to measure good intentions one might see Cater as best and Obama as worst.
I view it as a question of competence vs intentions as well as political savvy…. And luck plays some part in the performance package. Clinton had political savvy as did JFK while I view Biden as a feckless bumbling & crooked character who aged out of the job rather quickly. The determination of best / worst depends on what measurement standard is being used. For example, if you used the number of Americans killed throughout American history, Lincoln would look bad (600,00) dead retaining the union.
In my lifetime (Truman to now) Lincoln starts to look better because the appointment to the Supreme Court of those that would support abortion places some blame on various presidents. The current tally is millions of Americans killed.
If we consider that the primary mechanism of oral contraceptives is mucosal prevention of embryonic implantation (a de-facto abortion) we might be close to a billion Americans dead. However, few understand this is happening and might not be accountable for allowing this tragedy.
It is difficult enough to measure responsibility for US dead. Congress is not blameless either. When one tries to add economic and foreign policies things get even more complex. If one were to measure good intentions one might see Cater as best and Obama as worst.
BTW, Cato the Elder kept the people in-line by imposing a luxury tax on everything except the essentials and in doing so kept a balanced budget.Had Julius Caesar not proclaimed himself ‘Dictator for Life’ and just served a regular term, like Cincinnati’s did then go to his home and farm, he would have been fully accepted. What Caesar did for the people (feeding them with grain rations, providing housing, a coliseum for games &athletic events, military and police protection etc was unprecedented. Personally I’d prefer a benevolent dictator to a 4 year president.
I agree, both were iconic figures.Best Reagan
How about you all? Worst carter most damaging Obama
Best is Trump. Worst Bush Jr.Best Reagan
