I’m Independent Fundamental Baptist, searching for connections with like-minded individuals and maybe some friendly debates. Don’t mind me if I don’t know my stuff well, I’ve been struggling with Bible reading! Anytime someone reminds me I’ll try to read at least a verse, maybe that will push me in a good direction. Feel free to recommend where to read, favorite verses, or over explain and discuss parts of the Bible.

Hi Taithynn,

In order to engage others in discussion concerning your beliefs, you need to made a list of the ones where other factions among Baptists exist.

For example, did Christ die for everyone, those to be saved and those never to be saved, or did He die only for those to be saved?

Another might be did God choose individuals before creation for salvation, which is how most understand Ephesians 1:4, or are individuals chosen for salvation after they were physically born as James 2:5 seems to say?

If you come up with a doctrine you want to study and discuss, then start a thread in the Bible Study forum.

Pardon me, I don’t have the Bible memorized much at all so I can’t bring in verses, so instead I will just say what I believe from what I have been taught,

Jesus died for everyone, even the unsaved, knowing that many would never accept Him.

I don’t think God chose who was saved, if that were the case everyone would be, instead we chose to be saved. But of course He did always know who would and wouldn’t even before creating them.

Hi and welcome! Honestly , I don’t know exactly just what an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist is? Do you have a specific church that you go to that identifys as IFB or are you identifying yourself that way because you like what IFB’ s stand for. I identify as a Primitive Baptist however that’s another preference in the long list of “Baptist” categories.

One key to discussing what we believe is to support our view from scripture. For example, your said, and I agree, Jesus died for everyone. But why is this so? Because 2 Peter 2:1 says Christ "bought" the person heading for swift destruction, and 1 Timothy 2:6 says Christ died as a ransom for all, not just some.

I disagree with you second belief, but such a discussion should be on the Bible study forum.

Independent means that I’m willing to believe my own stuff based off of the Bible even if others don’t agree, same with churches under the title they don’t adhere to bigger churches to submit to their beliefs they are willing to break away to interpret the Bible in the way that is most truthful, fundamental means a firm belief in the Bible and everything it says, we don’t say that ehh it could mean something else or it could be wrong, we say no, that’s what the Bible meant, that’s what it says even if we don’t understand it. Honestly I just call myself that because that’s what my parents are, I haven’t explored any other branches, but I do believe in what it stands for and means so I don’t think I’ll change.

Hi, glad to have you on board!
I trust you will learn much and that we will learn from you!

BTW, I am a independent fundamental Baptist and our church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention!

Hiii, thank you! It’s nice seeing a fellow IFB! I haven’t heard about Southern Baptist Convention, what is it?
NOT IFB rather ifB!! Big difference! The SBC is a fellowship of some 40,000+ churches formed in the early 1800's to send out missionaries. We only have 2 mission boards a Home (incl Canada) and one Foreign. We support 3500 overseas and some 3000 home. The big difference is that once the boards approve the missionaries, they go right to the field - as they are in essence employed by the mission board. This is different from IFB churches where a missionary may spend 1-4 years visiting scores of churches to obtain financial support to go to their field. Each system has advantages and disadvantages.

Welcome. Read and think. That is something you'll find stimulating to your spirit. And don't fuss over what some others say. Just shake your head think to yourself, "Bless their heart" and move on. We have some on the BB that get that response from me after being here 25 years!
