With Ben Mandrell departing to become pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church (Memphis), will Lifeway trustees this time heed the counsel of conservatives such as Jim Richards and Steve Gaines to select a woman overseer at Lifeway?

Jim Richards, former executive director of the conservative 'Southern Baptists of Texas Convention':

"At LifeWay I would...advocate for a woman to be considered for the president’s position. There have to be hundreds of Southern Baptist women who are capable....Diversity has to be intentional. We can get this done."

No true conservative would place a woman in doctrinal deciding authority over a man.

This isn't placing a woman in a doctrinal deciding authority over men. But I agree with your statement as I see roles for genders.

Can a woman be incharge of Lifeway? Sure. Can a woman be in charge of scheduling pulpit supply? Sure. Can a woman be in charge of making bulletins? Sure.

A woman may actually be better dispositioned to head Lifeway.

The problem is many seem to believe women have absolutely no right to participate in God's ministry.

Not the head of Lifeway. It is an administrative position. Most, if not all, of the material is written by church teachers. You can apply to be a writer. The head of Lifeway is not determining the doctrine presented. The doctrine has already been determined (the Bible, the F&M).

By your reasoning women shoukd not teach boys because ultimately this is teachings they could hold as men.

Does not really matter to me because I have only attended one SBC church that used Lifeway materials. That was my last one, and I have to say I was very impressed with the study guides.

Edit: I just checked the dates. The church that used Lifeway is the church where I taught a senior adult class. I had not liked the material decades ago, but I was very impressed with the series this class was using. It was excellent. Beth Moore was over Lifeway at the time.

They do mAke decisions on who will dnd dho till not teach. They make decisions on what is CND is not taught. (Ie. Calvinism vs non Calvinism avoidance and omission of imprecatory Psalms in current series)

I have never held nor advocated that Women can't teach children. Paul specifically said they could.
