Adoniram Judson's homes

The foreword his biography by Courtney Anderson, To the Golden Shore states this summary of his life. It always moves me. It was quite a life.

Pictures of his homes here. If anyone has information about his Wenham and Braintree homes I'd be interested.

“The house is still standing yet time has encroached upon its former state and memories of Judson are now sadly removed. And in truth, that was the trajectory of his life: in navigator’s language, from latitude 42 degrees 25.75’ North, longitude 71 degrees 04.4’ West, to 10 latitude 13 degrees North, longitude 93 degrees East. The great circles of his navigation on our globe had certain intersections:
at an unidentified inn in western Massachusetts;
in a grove behind the Academy at Andover;
in the front room of a commodious house in Bradford;
in the Death Prison at Ava on the Irrawaddy;
beside a long open grave in the tigerish jungle below Moulmein;
in the harbor of the island of St. Helena;
in the city of Philadelphia;
at the seaport of Amherst by the Gulf of Martaban.
And there is a final trajectory on a curve only on Navigator can draw, to an intersection only one Navigator can locate.
This One issues a command:
All power is given unto Me in Heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the earth.
He obeyed it.”

Thank you for posting this, ljm14! Adoniram Judson is one of my missionary heroes. God used him in a very unexpected way to reach the Karen tribespeople when he was aiming at the Burmese (and of course he saw many of them saved too)! We have had several of the spiritual heirs of Judson's evangelism come to our Bible college here in the US. Wonderful young people.

The best biography of Judson, I feel, is The Life of Adoniram Judson by his son. I was so blessed reading that!

Tremendous loss

His legacy is ongoing that is awesome. I like that one too, and have found even more info from biographies from Wayland, Gillette and Middleditch all on Archive.

Thank you for posting this. I am from Burma, and we are very blessed by Adoniram Judson and his life in our country. His translation of the Judson Burmese Bible is the best Burmese Bible of all times. There are no other good and accurate translations yet. He prepared many dictionaries, books, and documentaries. After him, we, the Burmese people, follow his way, working for dictionaries, translations, and so on...
His life was tremendous hardship that we can't even imagine and losses. We will never forget him. Those who joined Bible school learned about Judson and his sacrifices to our country. We have Judson Memorial Church, Judson Bible, book, Judson Dictionary, school, college, and so on....

I personally would like to thank you all for your love of souls and reaching out across the world at the darkest places. Judson doesn't have a believer even after 6 years, but he didn't give up, and now, we have a chance to see Christ. It is all because of the seed sowing about Christ from Western believers. God bless!

Hi lim14, Amen! Thank you!
I am now serving and following what our great people have accomplished. And now, some storm hit me hard with the recent relocation to lower risk and the family health crisis, and I have come to pause my small ministry anyway. It has been since early this year. Living in Burma is really a challenge for everyone indeed, but anyway, we have many people to reach out to who have never heard of Christ. Some are just stubborn even when they hear. We just pray for everything!

I don't have the picture right now, but I live near the city that you might have heard about Yangoon. In the downtown, when we go there, we see the Immanuel Baptist Church. That is said to be where Judson first settled with a temporary tent. During the time of 1800s, that was ashore, near the river. We have learned the history that Dr. Judson's first intention for the mission was India, but during the war, he was rejected from landing in India and sailed to Burma. Then he first landed a place we built, Immanuel Baptist Church, which is where he settled at first. There are 8 services with many dialects and languages.

As we have been under military coup since 2021, military armies seized control of the area. The churches are closed down, and we the civilians have no chance to take a photo.
