Spiritual Block from Ear Lust for the KJV

There are times when I find the scriptures more difficult to interpret, regardless of whether I am reading the KJV, or some other version claimed to be much easier to read, and I wonder if I have this problem because of my mental illness, because of inadequate comprehension ability, or because of some spiritual block, supposing it is possible that the scriptures by God are closed to my understanding, at times when I take excessive pleasure in the sound of the KJV, and in the complexity of sentences in it, with the contemplation of writing things in the same style of prose.

Do you think that this is the reason why I am struggling to understand the Bible? That I read it for the pride of my own intellect, which is not very great, and refuse to ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten me as to what the scriptures say, not wishing to believe that I need His help in understanding His word, because that implies that no one can write that way? Evidently, I am wicked, though I often forgive others, and try to live peaceably with as many as possible.

Do I need to repent of every desire to sound like the KJV, or need I only turn from inordinate preoccupation with it? How should I go about being delivered from this, and from other sins? Can I do it through prayer? Will God remove my tendency to sin so much if I only ask Him consistently?

Thank you for your answers. Once again, I'm sorry that I did not take the time to plan out this post before writing it. This is something I struggle with, and I also ask whether I can overcome this through prayer as well.

I have some great news for you. You have already been prayed for more than once by possibly if not probably the greatest Christian prayer warrior who ever lived, the apostle Paul. This Paul was a man who was converted in the very presence of Jesus Christ and later personally had the great mysteries of this age revealed to him by Jesus Christ. He then wrote over half of the NT and he actually addressed his letters to us. It was in them he recorded his prayers and made his heart known.

Have you ever singled them out and read them to see what was on his heart for us? What was most important to him that he would make a theme of his intercessions for those he was charged to instruct?

Consider this phrase in the KJV.
Eph 1:15 ¶ Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; Then he records his prayer and notice the first thing he prays for.

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us–ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Who is Paul addressing here?

Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. (the Jews with 39 Bible letters, hence the word "we") were the first to trust in Christ.
13 In whom ye (the Ephesians were considered gentiles) also (also is a word of addition) trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest (down payment) of our (both Jew and gentile believers) inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession (the resurrection and glorification of the body both individual and corporately), unto the praise of his glory.

I encourage you to read this prayer and others that Paul prayed, even the next in Eph chapter 3.

Eph 3:13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
14 ¶ For this cause (the cause or purpose that he has stated for 12 verses in this chapter) I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

I won't quote the prayer now but you should read it.

Next; Philippians 1:

¶ I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
7 ¶ Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
8 For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
9 ¶ And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

And next is just a wonderful prayer for us;

Col 1:9 ¶ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

You should read the cause above and the petition below. What a prayer!

God and Paul want us to understand and comprehend the marvelous blessing it is to be in the church and to be one with one another and of Christ Jesus. I know this; one will have to have the words of God and believe them for these prayers to be answered and if one rejects them he cannot plead ignorance at the judgement.

Thank you for your reply.

I'd been struggling to focus days ago and that is why I couldn't comprehend the passage in the Bible I was reading, although I have yet to fully understand much of the New Testament because of the books' structure, and much of the Old Testament because or similar and other reasons. I also struggle to understand a number of sentences in the NT as a single thought, though I can usually understand each clause and phrase.

I am not sure what you meant in your last paragraph.

Matthew 11:25
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

Matthew 18:3
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Never mind. I understand your last paragraph now. I don't know why I didn't understand it yesterday.

I know that the Bible is a spiritual book, and that it requires prayer and humility to understand it. I do not think I realized that the Apostle Paul had been praying for the saints to understand scripture.
